True! And should the disaster actually occur,
those credit-buyers are gonna make out like *bandits*!

In all seriousness, I expect little, if any, problems. But its still a
good idea to have reasonable emergency reserves stored up, if only in case
of earthquake, extended winter power outages, or the like. We have water,
some long-storable food, filled the R/V propane and fuel tanks, dry wood,
and pet food. And I've finally gotten around to building a cable from the
R/V generator to the house mains panel, like I want every time the power
drops for more than a couple of hours!

Trigonometry tutorial

1999-12-22 Thread Fernando Cabral

Hello

It seems a couple of weeks ago I read a message
that had a pointer to a site with a tutorial on trignometry.

I am not 100% sure I got it from this list but if somebody
still has that message or knows the URL...

Thank you.

Now that you mentioned this Millennium Special I started thinking
why we have not discussed this issue on this list. To me it does not
seem that the third millennium will begin in 2000 but in 2001.

So, as far as I can see, all this fuss and hype about the next
new years day is but hype and fuss created and promoted by
marketers that wanna sell more hotel rooms, more air ticks,
more champaign...

I am wrong?

No, I believe you are correct.

Clever marketers--they'll get to sell the turn-of-the millennium
twice. And only the first one has potential to be troubled by the Y2K
bug.

Stargate Closing

1999-12-22 Thread John Hall

Hi All

The 'Stargate' is closing here between 24/12/99 and 4/1/2000 to avoid 'Y2K
swarm' attacks we are told ;-)

I marked the setting sun on our horizon last night so now it is on its way
back to you folks up there - take good care of her. The moon last night was
big bright and wonderful as Orion rode her up into the sky as they chased
Saturn and Jupiter, they all missed the sun by an hour or so - it was a
grand display. Who cares about the millenium anyway, just keep watching the
show ;-))

Many many thanks for all your collective wit, wisdom and help over the past
year. Wishing you all a very happy break however you may celebrate it.

Re: Fernando's Millenium

1999-12-22 Thread PsykoKidd

The millinium does technically begin on Jan 1, 2001 because there is no year
0. On the other hand if you celebrated a new decade in 1990, then it would
start in 2000. 2000 does look like more of a significant change than
2000-2001, and of course no one alive was around in year 0 anyway.
In addition, Jesus of Nazarath was not born in year 1 anyway, but at
least 4 years before that. (No one knows for sure)
So, technically 2000 is Y2K, and 2001 is the new millenium.
