Re: Moscow sundial?
Dear all, Frans is so kind to show my solution in answer to my own question. But it does not work also, as I have observed in the meantime. The instruction "stand on the date" is not enough. Perhaps the instruction must be: "stand on the date with the midline between your feet" And yet I have my doubts. Maybe this helps: a bathroom weighting scale on a rail along the midline and the instruction on the scale, "slide the scale until the date and read your weight and time" This suggestion is just to initiate a brainstorming session. AW: Moscow sundial and Trieste analemmatic sundial...
Dear friends, I prefer the completely different idea of the two Italian gnomonists Paolo Albéri Auber and Aurelio Pantanali, who have written the information right besides the analemma-line into the floor of the Piazza della Borsa- place! No extra panel is needed and people stay long very close to the line and do their shadow experiments. A nice long story about this sundial can be seen in the beginning of this link http://www.ta-dip.de/dies-und-das/schwarzes-brett.html , starting with I T A L I E N Piazza della Borsa è una delle piazze principali di Trieste. Conosciuta anche come il secondo salotto buono cittadino la piazza è stata il centro economico della città per tutto il XIX secolo. It's always a great fun and delight to see Aleksandr Boldyrev aproach to sundials. Clever, useful and with a sense of humor. I didn't know about that video and enjoyed it, in fact it comes just the day before I have a group of students coming to the Ciutadella de Roses Museum for a visit conected to Time, Calenders and Mesurement. I shall recomended. 2011/3/10 John Carmichael > Loved the human dial video! > > > > I sent the video link to a client in Michigan who is ordering a human > sundial design. Moscow sundial? Much more than a YouTube film...
Good morning Roger! I see, I see, you thought my answer was not effective enough as I did not provide the wanted link directly to you In the cultural field to make a little detour is certainly not the wrong approach. With my given link I enabled you and those of the list who were interested in this subject to get to know much more than this frequently visited YouTube film, but for example also to find another link, showing how Aleksandr Boldyrev had built this analemmatic sundial. And you got to know a good number of his sundial works as for example this most splendid porcelain sundial which he executed together with Elena F VASILEVKAY , which you did not ask for So once again for those of the sundial list who want to see more than a splendidly executed YouTube-film: http://www.ta-dip.de/sonnenuhren/sonnenuhren-von-freunden/r-u-s-s-l-a-n- d/aleksandr-w-boldyrev.html With best regards!
