I have 10 of the Isnode_*s, 6 dated on 10/29/2002, 2 on 11/7/2002
(Isnode_60593a and Isnode_60593b) and 2 on 11/6/2002 (Isnode_8438a and
Isnode_8438b)

I have 6 node, 1 on 10/19/2002, 4 on 10/29/2002 (1 is Node_8483), 1 on
11/6/2002 (Node_60593)

I have 10 rtnodes, 6 on 10/29/2002, 2 on 11/7/2002 (rtnode_60593a and
rtnode_60593b), 2 on 11/6/2002 (rtnode_8483a and rtnode_8483b)

I have 10 rtprops, 6 on 10/29/2002, 2 on 11/7/2002 (rtprops_60593a and
rtprops_60593b), 2 on 11/6/2002 (rtprops_8483a and rtprops_8483b)

I have two store directories, store_60953 on 11/6/2002 and store_8483 on
10/30/2002.

I have a stats directory dated 10/29/2002 and docs dated 11/6/2002. Does
that appear permissible?

The *_60593 would appear to be the most recent (and number match) and when
file size varies those are the largest.

yeah, but now you only add routes if they've successfully responded to
a request. To sabotage freenet, the FBI/whoever would have to make
requests succeed; making freenet a success.

[freenet-support] Web gateway?

2002-11-07 Thread David Decensorian
I want to try out freenet but my only access to the web is computers at a
public library so I can't install the software.
I tried web-to-freenet gateways I found on Google like

https://freenet.firenze.linux.it:4433/

http://freenet.bensin.org/

http://www.antioffline.com/mirror/cryptography/apps/freenet/fcptools/windows/gateway.html

but none of them seem to work.

Are there any web gateways that work? and where can I get keys?

In the interest of goodhousekeeping is it permissible (wise) to
remove the numberous "numbered" files of the *node and *prop
groups except for the last one (or two) with the latest date
(on a machine that does know the date and by a user that has
only the foggiest idea how Freenet works)?

They sort of resemble fall back files, but since others have

[freenet-support] latest build - good work!

2002-11-07 Thread Robert Carroll

Well, after watching my node for a while, I can
report with some confidence that the latest stable build of freenet is
performing much better.  My node has been running almost 24 hours and it's
not stuck at 100% cpu constantly, although the general trend is for cpu usage to
slowly increase.  I have seen this kind of behaviour in other complex java
apps that run for long periods of time, so it may be a jvm issue.  Even
better though is the lack of dead connections.  For as long as I can
recall, my firewall would report more and more dead connections (connections
lasting more than 8 hours with little data sent) the longer the node ran.
restarting my node would clear these connections out.  It's good to see
that this bug has been resolved.  I recommend to everyone to update to the
latest stable snapshot!  I'm looking forward to further improvments in
performance so I can handle more traffic. Kudos to the development
team!

2002-11-07 Thread rockymountainhigh
I am new to Freenet. I have been able to set
up a freenet node and access The Freedom Engine
as well as other sites. However, I can not
get Frost, FMB or SnarfZilla to show any files
or messages. Is there a tutorial showing how
to get these older clients to run with the newer
version of Freenet? I notice Frost asks for
the path to finsert etc, however the newer verison
of Freenet seems to use fserve.

Thank you,

Um, freenet doesn't work that way. You are saying that you can only
connect out on port 5190? What about email, web, etc? Surely port 80 is
available? You will need to run the freenet server on some port, but it
will need to be able to connect to other freenet nodes on other ports.

Not sensible. The browser would time out waiting for the download, as
would the user, with no feedback. It is possible to set it up to only
show the UI if the file is over a certain size.

[freenet-support] fcpHosts problem

2002-11-07 Thread Klaus Koch
Hello,

I am using build 533 with j2re1.4.1_01 from sun on my debian woody
server. setup and tuning worked fine, but one last problem remains:

I am not able to connect from remote hosts to the node (localhost:
works). I modified fcpHosts for allowed hosts but this didnt help. I
checked the FAQ and found the fproxy.bindAddress=* option, but this
seems to be deprecated, as the log file shows:

"Ignoring obsolete fproxy.* lines in freenet.conf/ini. You can remove
them."

The only external error message I can get is from lynx ("Unexpected
network read error"), other browsers just don't connect. I can telnet
to the port, so it seems to be open?

And I turned off my firewall completely for testing, to ensure that this
doesn't cause the error.

Please, can anyone help me with this?
Thank you very much!

Klaus

I still find it strange that freenet's performance is so poor that
merely 10 connections can build up a system load well over 12. Anyone
out there who has an explanation for that?

Yes, in 533 they fixed the "100% cpu usage" bug many people experienced :)

Re: [freenet-support] Performance on slow hardware

Since noone else has replied(?) I'll just do it myself. Today when I
logged in the system load was again way over 12 on my poor little
pentium 100. So i reduced the maxTread to 15 and maxNode to 5.

After restarting freenet, wich by the way is updated to Build: 533
with the update.sh script from the install archive, the system load
is back down to 0.16 according to 'top'. Freenet itself claims the
estimated load is 53%.

I still find it strange that freenet's performance is so poor that
merely 10 connections can build up a system load well over 12. Anyone
out there who has an explanation for that?

[freenet-support] Hello I look for Freenet Nodes with special port !

2002-11-07 Thread Ivan Dachev
Hello,

My name is Ivan and I'm come from Bulgaria.

I work in company behind firewall and I want to use
freenet. My administrators allow only port 5190
for ICQ.

My question is: Can I find somewhere in the net
Freenet nodes list, which nodes listen on this port ?

If you know such node or if you know where can
I find key file for such nodes please write to me.

Thanks in advance!
