[freenet-support] Re: What to do after switching ISP

2006-04-21 Thread Level 13
Well, I've had my DynDNS address before... but didn't use it with
Freenet. So all I would have to do was put this DynDNS address in
"ipAddres=" instead of putting my external IP there?

If so - if I do this now, will the whole node have to start from scratch again?

Yes, I'm behind a NAT router/firewall...

Ideally you should forward the UDP port.

The nodes that know your IP will still be using it, but slowly forgetting it,
recognising
the new dyndns address (that's what was going on with me). When your IP
changes, you just
change the dyndns entry, nodes will not see any change. Only nodes which up
until that
time didn't mannage to catch up with the news will be affected.

Of course... what do i know.

[freenet-support] What to do after switching ISP

2006-04-21 Thread Matthew Toseland
Sadly not. Your node is not considered a new one, but if either you or
your peers are behind a NAT, an IP address change can be rather
traumatic...

I suggest you get a dyndns.org address to minimize future problems...

I can't remember what it's called exactly but there's some program on
windows for managing services, open that and find freenet in the list,
stop it, set it to need to start manually to run and then delete the
folder you installed freenet in. You can not get the service to not be
listed in the service program without editing the registry but I don't
what to change in there maybe someone else on here know?
