Try to update to 1166, which is released just now.

[freenet-support] Nearly no content left with correct compression?

2008-10-28 Thread freenetw...@web.de
Hi guys,

I just updated to current head and have to find to my dislike that
nearly nothing is fetchable anymore.

Be it either the found data structure is "too old" and inaccessible:

Error: Archive failure
Freenet was unable to retrieve this file.
This is a fatal error. It is unlikely that retrying will solve the problem.
Failure in extracting files from an archive: An IOE occured: Not in GZIP
format

for The Ultimate FreeNet Index, Toad, Publish!, Freesite HOWTO, etc etc
etc, many many others

or the found data structure is "too new" and not parsed by FProxy:

Large file
Filename: bombe-51.tar
Size: 2.07 MiB (may change)
Expected MIME type: application/x-tar

This isn't a very productive and joyful situation... at least
backward-compatibility could be retained.
I'm back to r22882, at least then was 95% of the content working.

I wonder what's with the Frost boards / other non-freesite content
inserted? In what format are these stored?
Is a new full content reset approaching? And needlessy, too, I think.

A concerned citizen.

[freenet-support] Another hideous mistake :|

2008-10-28 Thread Matthew Toseland
Some nodes will have updated to 1166 over the auto-update-over-Freenet
mechanism only to stop working, with errors
like "java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError". I inserted the 1166 update
built with java 1.6. I have fixed the build script so this doesn't happen
again (we specified source but not target), but if your node suddenly stops
working with 1166 and you're running java 1.5 then try upgrading to 1.6, or
getting the update over the web by running update.cmd / update.sh.

Large file

1166 is simply 1165 plus two NPE fixes. If it works in 1165 then it works in
1166.

Now re-upgrade again or your node will soon disconnect from all peers because
they're 'too new'. Bugs will be fixed if we run bugged versions and report
them, but if we all stay on the last version that seemed to work fairly well,
Freenet will never get to 1.0
Remember that this is not an utility that is supposed to be stable and rliable,
it's an alpha that needs testing and bug reposting -lots of that.

Oh. I see this thing has been discussed and solved already. Disregard my
previous message then (some day I'll learn to read all the messages before
answering to one)
