Could there be some way to issue renewed seednodes requests, other than restart FN time and again? Now FN just sits there repeating its log line while doing nothing else as it seems. Sounds crazy, but what system are you using ? in the last 2 or 3 years, I experimented from time to time, and with some updates, temporary troubles… but normally everything seems smooth, even connecting to strange nodes and so on (iMac intel core duo, 10.7) XP sp3 updated often, java 6 update 29(build 1.6.0_29-b11), no software firewall, no realtime virus scanner, no realtime antimalware. Would my box be infected with a rootkit, I should have noticed in that time somehow. Everything runs okay once connected usually, apart from with current build the node losing its peers down to zero at times, bringing me to connection hell. But normally, once connected it stays that way until winz forces me to reboot, which is at least once a week. Today, after a sys restart, zilch up til nothing happens. What are your bandwidth settings / total possible connected peers? (Maybe either your connection settings are making your peers drop you for some bizarre reason, or maybe your ISP is somehow blocking you -- are you using a chinese ISP (proxy)? :P Also, is your freenet port forwarded? Fproxy says 'maybe fwd'd' of the opennet port. Of course I am using 1404 and I'm also aware of having to change the NLM and AIMD settings. Once more, this cumbersome connecting problem I have since 2 years! My isp is not trying to block FN, it is on the contrary one that allows more than usual, like running a mail server. [freenet-support] Development system
Hello, I have two computers. An old stationary system which runs OS/2, and a new laptop which runs WinXP because NetBSD won't run on it (yet)). I only have a pay-per-minute dial-up line so I'm not running a permanent node. Anyhow... I have written a couple of fcp tools in Rexx and in C, and without having a freenet node it would be somewhat difficult to test them, so I start Freenet without any internet connection. On my OS/2 system I get a few messages about my node being transient, and something about ipAddress - but it runs without any problems after that. If I try to launch the Freenet node on my XP system without an internet connection, the CPU usage bumps up to 100%, and the node seems VERY busy doing nothing. The air coming out of my laptop becomes very hot after a short while. The whole laptop becomes way to warm for comfort after a minute or two. So; how do start Freenet on my non-internet-connected Windows system without it eating up all my CPU resources? Using latest stable build on both systems. Kind regards, Jan M. At 18-11-2003, out of the blue, an email from Dave Hooper entitled 'Re: [freenet-support] minor bug webinstaller' surprised me with: Could you tell me under what circumstances the webinstaller will try to overwrite itself while running please? I see this only happening if you first download the webinstaller into the freenet application folder, and then run it, which is not really intended. If that is what you do (and if it is indeed common) then maybe I'll code for that behaviour. This intention is kinda that you just run (rather than download-and-save) the webinstaller! I don't understand what you mean, like, the installer is started remotely? It happens when I've got the webinstaller in its default place (I guess), in the Freenet dir, and run 'Update Snapshot' from the startmenu. I don't have my Freenet installation on C:, but on the second of quite a few partitions. If I copy the installer into a subdir and run it by starting the .exe, there is no trouble. BTW: the installer offers me as the only option to install 'Freenet Node', Space required 2.0 KB it sais, and then apparently gets the entire installation. Also not what you intend to show I reckon. For one like me with cable it's no problem to download a couple of megabytes but those with slower pipes won't be happy. -- groet! jan . ___ Support mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://dodo.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support
[freenet-support] Question on IPNetRouter for Macintosh
Hi, Just checking if I filled out the Port Mapping right. I have Freenet running on a win98 PC behind the IPNR router/firewall. Yeah, I know 98 isn't recommended, w98, w2k and xp just don't play well together on this box. In the Port Mapping window I added a line: Protocol: TCP Apparent Endpoint: my outside IP#:Freenet port# Actual Endpoint: 192.168.0.2:Freenet port# Flags: P S (Permanent and Static) I find the IPNR documentation pretty confusing, probably because I don't understand much of networking. So if anyone can say the above is okay, I can sleep again g. Freenet does work be it very badly. Lately I also don't get past the warning page but that has been better, I've seen a couple of sites. Fuqid has managed to get a few files, Freenet Message Board starts up but doesn't show a single message, Frost idem dito. Guess I need to leave Freenet running in hope of better times. This is probably a well known bug but it still persists. The web installer tries to overwrite itself which of course isn't possible since it is in use.
