Sorry, I was busy with other things; this will be looked into before
0.8-alpha1.

Yes, it's a known problem, the easier solution is to use the start.exe and
stop.exe from the new wininstaller in the old installer, the harder
solution

I submitted several patches to make the current update.cmd script take
advantage of the new start.exe and stop.exe (if they existed) while
maintaining backwards compatibility, but that directory is restricted

I still had some work to do to finish the Vista node restart handling,

in fact fixed at least one bug in the current script.

Hey all,

As you can see looking at the website, the project can afford to pay

for

Matthew for only another 25 days. As many of you are aware, Matthew's
contribution to development is fundamental, and it would be a serious

blow

to the project if we could no-longer pay him.

I know times are tough, but if you can spare anything I'd ask that you
visit
our donation page at http://freenetproject.org/donate.html, and

contribute

whatever you can.

Please also forward this message on to any other relevant forums (such

as

on-Freenet message boards).

Thanks,

Ian.

The biggest problem is IMHO that the links in the start menu point to
programs which should run with administrator privilegies. A simple
right-click-preferences-compatibility-run as administrator is
enough. Freenet runs beautifully under Vista (tested with Vista Business
x64 with java 6 u13). A page explaining this, linked from the downloads
page, would be a good workaround in time. Should be under an hour to
create ;)

I submitted several patches to make the current update.cmd script take
advantage of the new start.exe and stop.exe (if they existed) while
maintaining backwards compatibility, but that directory is restricted
access and no-one applied the patches. :(

The last .diff I sent was on January 19th. I grew annoyed that my
work was seemingly not wanted and I wandered on to other things.

I still had some work to do to finish the Vista node restart handling,
but I always committed working code that would not break installs and
in fact fixed at least one bug in the current script.

Attached is the last .diff I sent if you want to see where I left off...

Hey all,

As you can see looking at the website, the project can afford to pay for
Matthew for only another 25 days. As many of you are aware, Matthew's
contribution to development is fundamental, and it would be a serious blow
to the project if we could no-longer pay him.

I know times are tough, but if you can spare anything I'd ask that you visit
our donation page at http://freenetproject.org/donate.html, and contribute
whatever you can.

Please also forward this message on to any other relevant forums (such as
on-Freenet message boards).

Thanks,

Ian.

I would consider donating if there was a Freenet version that installs
reliably on Vista. As yet I have not managed a successful install.

of problems running Freenet on Vista but a new Vista friendly version is
coming soon'.

Have you filed a bug report describing the problem in detail?

Yes, it's a known problem, the easier solution is to use the start.exe and
stop.exe from the new wininstaller in the old installer, the harder solution
is to finish (e.g. translate) and deploy the new wininstaller.
