Oh...There must be a way to remove the pin.

If you're using something FSO-based see:
   http://git.freesmartphone.org/?p=specs.git;a=blob_plain;f=html/org.freesm
  artphone.GSM.SIM.html;hb=HEAD#SetAuthCodeRequired

I think this is available through the settings gui in recent SHR.

Is QT Extended FSO based?... I am currently running version 4.4.2

No, it isn't. It should have an option in its settings to turn off SIM
authentication, but I couldn't tell you exactly where.

Yes, Qt Extended has an option to turn off SIM lock... My everyday phone
(P900) also has this option. But I was wondering if this feature
actually removes the PIN, or just remembers it.

So I disabled the SIM lock from my P900 and then moved the SIM card to
my FR. The FR did not ask for a PIN, so I guess this means it has been
removed.

The image is small, so I put it on a 64M card and booted with that. It

Thanks :-)

Are you using Qi or uboot?

I was planning on sticking with uboot since the wiki tells me that Qi
can give problems.. On the other hand, the uboot modification for
kernels 2MB seems tricky, and the Qi way seems much simpler.

Can you recommend Qi?

Yup - what's happening is that the Smart theme isn't really suited for
use on the Freerunner (hopefully yet) ;) - The trick for now is to either
turn off the SIM protection, or to switch to the old theme :)

Okay... so how do I get past the lock, so I can switch theme? I can't
  even ssh to the phone.

It's pretty difficult, but you *can* type numbers on that keypad. Do a few
tests and press delete until you are certain the numbers you hit are the
correct ones (the biggest problem is the 8 key, which is partially covered by
one of the icons, and thus very hard to hit). You only have to get past it
that once to get in and turn off the SIM protection, but do watch out, as it
of course still will lock you out and require PUK after three mistries...
 Yeah, not really optimal ;)

Of cause... The PUK code. I had forgotten all about it. No wonder I was
not able to unlock the phone. I must have tried 20 times or so...hehe.
I can't believe my luck, I actually found the PUK in one of my

Fortunately, I still have my old phone, so unlocking with the PUK is no
problem.

To import my addressbook, i simply sent it via bluetooth, after exporting

imported it flawlessly, even importing my contacts's pictures. Some fields
are still missing, like birthdays, but most of them are here. I haven't

My problem was that I used the 'addressbook' function via ssh on the
host.. That does not work. As soon as I did it directly in the phones
terminal, it worked fine.

Importing from VCard is much better that reading from SIM :-)

About exporting, the wiki says:
Exporting to VCF can be done via qtmail's 'send all' function (which
only supports sms, bluetooth)

In the Contact list, there is a 'Send all' function in the 'Options'
menu. I think that's the one they are talking about. I assume you can
use it to sent a VCard file to your desktop. I haven't tried it yet

Does anyone know what is happening?

Yup - what's happening is that the Smart theme isn't really suited for

  off
the SIM protection, or to switch to the old theme :)

Okay... so how do I get past the lock, so I can switch theme? I can't
 even ssh to the phone.

I was a bit too quick to ask that... I am connected via ssh now. Just
need to figure out how to switch the theme now... ?

 work with 4.x

  Any suggestions?

my bets are on 'install gcc3.x and rebuild qemu'

I just tried installing compat-gcc-34, but it didn't seem to help.
Stille getting the same error.

I'll search some more and se what I can find... any suggestions are

Qemu - qemu-system-arm: No such file or directory

2008-07-24 Thread Jette Derriche
I've read the thread about this issue, but the suggested solution didn't
help me (removing *.jffs2 and *.bin files).
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg14032.html

This is what I've done so far (running Fedora 9):

Installed subversion, gcc 4.3, SDL-devel, lynx and netpbm.

Then...
# svn checkout https://svn.openmoko.org/trunk/src/host/qemu-neo1973
# patch -p2 qemu-gcc4.patch
# ./configure --target-list=arm-softmmu --disable-gcc-check
# openmoko/download.sh
# openmoko/flash.sh

Failed:
openmoko/flash.sh: line
80:
/home/jde/Documents/linux/openmoko_qemu/qemu-neo1973/arm-softmmu/qemu-system-arm:
 No such file or directory
Please wait, programming the NAND flash...

Then tried suggested fix:
# cd openmoko/
# rm -f *.jffs2
# rm -f *.bin
# cd ../
# svn update
# openmoko/download.sh
# openmoko/flash.sh

The same error occurred...

Any suggestions?

There is a wiki-page with information:

I followed this example yesterday, and it worked:

# ifconfig eth0 up
# iwconfig eth0 essid any

# udhcpc eth0
# ifconfig usb0 down; ifconfig usb0 up

Also, a problem with SIM cards: I use Cingular's pay-as-you-go

I don't know ... maybe someone else can answer that.

You're right. It doesn't apply only to a factory-fresh phone, it
applies any time dropbear is updated. Hopefully users will recognise
this, because it was explained to them in this Quickstart guide. If
not we'll need to add an FAQ to the wiki or make the Quickstart
 explain this better.

I dont think it is not a matter of adding more information, it is a
matter of removing misleading information... in this case the word
'factory-fresh'.
Users will follow the instructions on the 'getting started' page, and
then think that this is not a problem in future updates.

  From: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/GPS

Thanks... that helped. Great info on that page.

The external antenna for the GPS is an MMCX connector. It is located
inside the battery compartment, to the left of the battery, and directly
  above the SD card.

So what you want is a GPS antenna with an MMCX connector.

I'm almost certainly sure that this is BS.
This probably refers to the internal GPS connector or GSM connector.
 (Both are on the back)
Jette is looking for a external GPS antenna. (on the side)

But MMCX is right. I kept my mouth shut because i expected Jette to
 search the lists himself.

I did search last night, but apparently not well enough ... hehe.

It's not obvious from my name... but I'm a female ;-)

Contacts with picture

2008-07-23 Thread Jette Derriche
I successfully imported my contacts - even those containing a picture. A
miniature picture shows up in the list (I'm impressed).

But, if I click a contact with a picture, the phone jumps back to the
front page (the initial screen). This does not happen with contacts with
no picture.

Anybody else experienced this?

Factory-fresh phone and dropbear

Flashing Neo FreeRunner

2008-07-22 Thread Jette Derriche
I have a few questions about flashing the phone:

1) Is there a way to tell the version/date of the current image used on
the phone? My phone is new, so I have no idea.

2) The page http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Dfu-util includes a warning
that the Dfu-util is broken. The warning does not include a date.. Does
it still apply?

3) What is the 'partion name' in this command:
./dfu-util -a (partion name) -R -D (download image file name)

The wiki says altsetting of the DFU interface by name or by number but
I don't understand what 'altsetting' is?

I realize that these are stupid newbie questions... If this is not the
right forum to ask these questions, please direct me to the right place.

 most likely. mine says 20080720.
though, be aware that opkg upgrade only will save you the work of flashing
 root/kernel.

Aah.. okay. Nice :-)

u-boot is not (yet?) upgradable from inside the fr, you still
 need to flash it.

Is there any way to see how old my current u-boot is?
