Re: OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, Okay, dealing with the low resolution I thought that it could be something to do with the odl pcw/pcwx issue for philips webcam drivers. So I tried to install that, however the install instructions don;t work - the patch file bombs out and I'm not _totally_ sure how to correct the flaw manually. Basically the patch file seems to not reflect the directory structuire of the 2.6.24 kernel. After that I tried to compile the latest version of the pwc (philips webcam) driver which apparently doesn't need separate pwcx files to get a higher resolution. So I tried to install pwc-10.0.12-rc1 but the compilation of that fails with the follwoing errors: make -C /lib/modules/2.6.24-20081103.git7172ec57/source SUBDIRS=/root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1 modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6-openmoko-20081103.git7172ec57' CC [M] /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.o /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:171: error: unknown field 'hardware' specified in initializer /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:171: error: 'VID_HARDWARE_PWC' undeclared here (not in a function) /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c: In function 'cd_to_pwc': /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1020: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c: In function 'pwc_create_sysfs_files': /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1065: warning: passing argument 2 of 'video_device_create_file' from incompatible pointer type /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1066: warning: passing argument 2 of 'video_device_create_file' from incompatible pointer type /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1065: warning: ignoring return value of 'video_device_create_file', declared with attribute warn_unused_result /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1066: warning: ignoring return value of 'video_device_create_file', declared with attribute warn_unused_result /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c: In function 'pwc_remove_sysfs_files': /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1073: warning: passing argument 2 of 'video_device_remove_file' from incompatible pointer type /root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.c:1074: warning: passing argument 2 of 'video_device_remove_file' from incompatible pointer type make[2]: *** [/root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1/pwc-if.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/root/pwc/pwc-10.0.12-rc1] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6-openmoko-20081103.git7172ec57' I'm guessing that I'm either not linking in a file I need or (more likely) the latest version of pwc won;t compile against the kernel I am using. Hello, Okay I have java to video4linux running ( http://code.google.com/p/v4l4j/) and it is working well (I'll write this up for people in the future. Re: OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, On the lines of gstreamer - I'm looking at trying to get gstreamer-java working on openmoko. From what I can see I'll need to build the java jna library myself for this as the library has not been built on the freerunner debian before. I'll try that out to see what happens - sow many seeds! Re: OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, This is just a quick question but I wonder if this is my area of concern : 1) apt-get source linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02 2) modify linux-2.6-openmoko-20081103.git7172ec57/defconfig-gta02 by hand or with menuconfig 3) sudo apt-get build-dep linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02 4) fakeroot apt-get --build source linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02 5) sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02*.deb When I execute the above commands, running command 3 downloads the sources and unpacks them - is this overwriting the changes I have made to defconfig-gta02 and causing the kernel to compile with the standard options again - without my additions to tell it to compile the video4linux drivers? Thanks again. Re: OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, Whne I scan through the list of file in the package I cannot see the modules for the video for linux installed, however the config file definitely has the option for that turned on. I have attached both files to this email - I've also tried compiling these separatly with* make driver/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko*. This starts up and gives me the following: --- debian-gta02:/usr/src/linux-2.6-openmoko-20081103.git7172ec57# make drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko CHK include/linux/version.h make[1]: `include/asm-arm/mach-types.h' is up to date. MODPOST 292 modules --- The command then finishes with no complaints but the is no .ko file there. Errm - I'm kinda stuck now, not sure what to do - any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Hello, Sorry but I have another dumb question - suppose I want to install the new kernel I have just compiled. I have run through all of the steps above and the dpkg command works fine. Re: OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, I'm really sorry to be thick here but I'm moving onto the FreeRunner to execute the work and I cannot download the linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02 package. It compains that I need to add sources - I've searched around again but cannot find the repository needed to download this. So I copied the sources.list from my desktop machine plus the contents of /var/lib/apt/lists to the freetunner. I could then do an apt-get to install and that worked in taht it downloads the sources. This complained that it could not execute dpkg-source and I need to install dpkg-dev - I tried to do an apt-get for that but it complained that dpkg-dev has no installation candidate. I guess I am missing some sources in my repos but I don't know which ones. Thanks you very much for tips and advice. OpenMoko Webcam
Hello, I am trying to enable support on my OpenMoko for Webcams. I have followed the instructions to install debian by using the installation script described at : http://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnFreeRunner. I then followed the instructions for openmoko and webcam at : http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Webcam. I downloaded the kernel and upzipped it as described. The instructions said to get a config from /proc/.config but that didn't exist after the install script. I then found a config file in the debian package which the automatic installer uses called 'linux-image-2.6.24-openmoko-gta02'. So I downlaoded the source for this and found a config file at defconfig-gta02 - I used this. Carrying on I ran the command : make drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko. However here is where the problem starts. The code goes through and shows the following output: --- debian-gta02:/usr/src/linux-2.6-openmoko-20081103.git7172ec57# make drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko scripts/kconfig/conf -s arch/arm/Kconfig CHK include/linux/version.h UPD include/linux/version.h SYMLINK include/asm-arm/arch -> include/asm-arm/arch-s3c2410 Generating include/asm-arm/mach-types.h CHK include/linux/utsrelease.h UPD include/linux/utsrelease.h SYMLINK include/asm -> include/asm-arm CC arch/arm/kernel/asm-offsets.s GEN include/asm-arm/asm-offsets.h CALLscripts/checksyscalls.sh :1097:2: warning: #warning syscall fadvise64 not implemented :1265:2: warning: #warning syscall migrate_pages not implemented :1321:2: warning: #warning syscall pselect6 not implemented :1325:2: warning: #warning syscall ppoll not implemented :1365:2: warning: #warning syscall epoll_pwait not implemented CC scripts/mod/empty.o HOSTCC scripts/mod/mk_elfconfig MKELF scripts/mod/elfconfig.h HOSTCC scripts/mod/file2alias.o HOSTCC scripts/mod/modpost.o HOSTCC scripts/mod/sumversion.o HOSTLD scripts/mod/modpost HOSTCC scripts/kallsyms HOSTCC scripts/conmakehash CC drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.o MODPOST 0 modules --- No 'explicit' error gets reported but the dirver file does not get made. Searching for this (on debian in gerenal as there is not much on the freerunner itself', I find comments that the config file may be incorrect - however I cannot find another source for the config file. For now I am trying to do a complete compile of the kernal on the FreeRunner but as you can imagine - that is a bit slow!! Does anyone have any advice or tips they can give me on compiling the driver and/or working out a config file?
