[pfSense Support] Saving Cron Tab /etc/crontab onto CF cards to maintain changes following rebooting

2007-10-03 Thread Tortise
Hi

I have found that rebooting seems to restore the crontab file back to the
default value.

How can we commit changes of /etc/crontab to CF?

Kind regards

??GREEN and RED?? Sounds like IPCOP

When you have this issue can the router ping out to the internet? What
computers are attached to the LAN side? How are the computers attached
to the LAN? Have you tried to repair the internet connection on the
computer? Do you use PPPoE? How long between problems? How often does
your ISP reset its DHCP leases?

Hi,

I've just installed pfSense 1.02RC2 to run the network in my house. It
is in testing now...

pfSense runs on an HP P4 2.0ghz with 256MB or RAM using an Adaptec 4
10/100 NIC card. Internet connection is done through a DLINK DSL302
ADSL2 Etherne Modem connected via a crossover cable to the RED
Interface.

As now, just two interfaces are active, the GREEN and the RED.

Everything is running fine, the modem stays connected but, every now and
then, I cannot connect the internet from the GREEN interface.

The modem is OK, the ADSL COnnection is OK. The only thing the solve the
problem is to restart the pfSense server

pfSense configuration is standard, no packages loaded, and no changes
from the default wizard.

Any idea on where I've to look to understand where the problem is?

Or, better, do you know why this is happening?

The Carrier is TelecomItalia with the Alice ADSL 4Mb offer.

Thanks for who will provide support.

Interesting Marco

Look into the thread I started
[pfSense Support] LAN / WAN Disconnections continue in 1.2-RC1, Intel
Pro/1000GT NICs with 370M RAM

Let us know if that solves it. BTW what is your ADSL modem model and brand,
for the record?

Kind regards

RE: [pfSense Support] OT: ISDN in the US? (Draytek devices?)

2007-10-03 Thread Hoos, Stephen
I believe that there is a law requiring your telephone company to offer
ISDN service to your area no matter what. You may find that once you
request ISDN service that the upgrades they are required to do will make
it possible to get aDSL.

Hi Folks:

I have one store which cannot get DSL or cable (over 20,000ft from the
CO and Comcast hasn't built infrastructure there yet) - no IDSL either.

We don't want to commit to terms for fractional T1; so I am left with
two options - Sprint CDMA EVDO USB card attached to a Draytek device or
ISDN until DSL or cable become available. There are no fixed wireless
(WiMax or even WiFi) ISPs available in the area either.

Fractional T is not an option because of expense and commitments. We
only need a temporary fix until ATT and/or Comcast bring the
infrastructure out.

ISDN as an internet access technology in the US faded away rather
quickly as soon as ADSL and cable became available (mid 90s); but it is
apparently still available. I have bought a lot of Draytek devices
thanks to reccomendations from the irc channel; the ADSL models indicate
compatibility with *european* ISDN standards but say nothing of American
ISDN standards. Does anyone know if these work with American ISDN
standards as well?

Let me know, thanks --

Gabe

Solved, the problem was related with the carrier.

Green and Red? Right, I've started with IPCop, it lasted half a day, then
switched to IPCop.

In any case I will give a look to the thread you have suggested.

Now the strange thing is that my message took 3 days to get into the List.

Thanks everybody.

I have done, thanks Chris.

It will be interesting to see what Marco's problem is.

I also wondered if the thread
[pfSense Support] hotplug event on LAN triggers problem on PPTP WAN

was related to the same problem I was having. Of course it continues, but the
fault is now rapidly self fixed with the cron tab /
ping file I wrote.

Btw is there a variable for the LAN and WAN interfaces? ?#WAN

Kind regards

[pfSense Support] PFSense as LAN Firewall

2007-10-03 Thread Cesar Vergara \(MMP\)
Hi guys,

I want to know if this setup can be implemented with PFSense:

I have a IPVPN Lan conected from my HQ to my remote office, in the remote
office i had also a ADSL conecction. Now the ADSL routes all 192.168.x.x
traffic to the IPVLN Lan from the Remote to the HQ (yo Access the local lan
and the W2k domain) and the rest of the traffic throught its WAN ip to
internet. But the users tend to misuse the internet downloadins music and
accessing porn sites.

I want to block this so i want to setup a PFSense box between the switch and
connect the ADSL the IPVPN to PFsense and let it do the same the ADSL
Router is doing know. Installiing the Squid pkg and Some sort of
DansGuardian to block the undesired pages. I dont want to block the acces to
the HQ LAN.

Any help will be appreciated.
