Re: Group message option

2009-05-07 Thread ChO₂
Do you want to send messages to all users in a buddy group or do you
want to use chatrooms?

The former is not supported by Pidgin due to its high likelyness to be
abused (unless you're the admin of an XMPP/Jabber server and you want to
send a message to all of your users), the latter is supported (see FAQ).

Re: Questions

This group is added by an IM service that you're using, so Pidgin can't
do anything about it.

However, this group will not be added to any other account until you add
a buddy that belongs to another account to that group.

Hi,

I am trying it this app and absolutely love it. Although there is one

“Profile Friends” with one name in there. I delete the group hoping it

Any ideas?

I recommend OpenFire. It's an XMPP/Jabber server which is very easily
setup, cross plattform and flexible. It can be connected to your LDAP

Removing/Uninstalling Pidgin

2009-05-07 Thread Doug Graham
I have the Pidgin program installed on my netbook. I'm sure it's a wonderful

It would appear that I have to reformat my entire OS in order to remove

non-existent uninstaller for this program.

Please advise how to remove Pidgin from my system.

Assuming you're on Windows and you have Administrator privileges, the
standard Add/Remove Programs functionality in the Control Panel is how
you can remove it.

If You do not have XP but instead the dumbed down version of Linux that
many Manufacturers pre-install in order to save expense and place less
stress on the Atom processor then the apt-get utility should also
provide an uninstall utility. :-\

I believe some Pidgin developers do use OpenFire, but we really don't
recommend it. It has some serious bugs (failure to validate XML
properly, various crashes), including some which have been a problem
for Pidgin in the past. XMPP is indeed a good choice for an internal
messaging server, however, that much of this recommendation is good.

(I'm not going to say we actively *discommend* OpenFire, either, but I
do want to clarify that this OpenFire recommendation is _not_ a
 recommendation of the Pidgin team.)

Texting and Pidgin

I'm sure there a few dozen or more people here with better information
on netbooks but it depends on the type of distribution it uses.. Eg.
deb, rpm, slackware, etc... Check with manufacturer or online google
to see, and then you can look up the distribution specific method.
I've read online its a hp mini distro but its also likely built on
specific distro

I hope you get it working
