Hi, All,

I found there is a security bug against pidgin.
see
http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2010-0277

I want to know when the bug will get fixed? Is there a bug to track this
issue?

Thanks

Brian

The problem is that it says I need to bye a winRAR license is there
no way I can get past this without buying this license?

Well if you don't have Winzip or WinRAR installed then Windows itself
should be able to open a zip archive through Explorer, just open the
zip file or right click it in Explorer. I can do this and I do have
Winzip installed, it should certainly work without.

BTW, this discussion should be carried out via the Pidgin support list
then the answers will be archived and become searchable so that people
can avoid needing to repeat questions continually.

List Handler does not copy as i want it to

2010-01-25 Thread Michelle
Hi

I do not seem to understand the list handler plugin I have now got it on my
pidgin but I can seem to copy my buddies from one account to another.

I click on the list handler choose the account I want to copy from then
click on copy then select the account I want to copy to and then click on
add.

Now all my buddies add to the account I wanted to copy from?

Can you also explain to me why I can only copy to accounts that are on my
pidgin?

These are 2 problems I would like to solve.

The most important problem is how do I get it to copy properly.

Can you please get back to me a.s.a.p. as this is for work and it cannot
wait

Best Regards

Michelle

Pidgin is free software, there is no requirement that it must work for
you, although generally the developers will respond to reasonable
requests if it fits in with their development needs and schedule.

If you've been told to use this for work, then that 'work' should be
providing support for the program they have chosen. I'd suggest you ask
the people that provide whatever your IT support arrangements are.

I closed my buddy list but still receiving messages days later. Is there a
way to shut down other than closing the buddy list?

In the Buddy List, click Buddies Quit. That will exit Pidgin.

Please see http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/SecurityVulnerabilityProcess

This security issues seems to have been made public in violation of the
reporting guidelines. That often happens for self promotion reasons.
2.6.4 is too recent for anyone to justify release on the basis that the
developers were being unreasonably slow.

As you can see from that link you will not get any useful response until
patches have been issued to packagers, and they have been given a chance
to create fixed ones.

Please note that I am not on the security mailing list, so I have no
access to privileged information on this subject.

Note to the authors of the guidelines; We take seriously are
discredited words in stock replies. You really need to back them up by
real statistics on time to fix. Every marketing department uses this
sort of form of words, often when the reality of the organisation is
very different, although I believe that Pidgin developers really will
treat problems seriously.

RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

It does exist, for certain types of accounts (like Yahoo). Just enable it.
