Pidgin is not a web-based IM client. If you could run regular programs
on the chromebook and could obtain Pidgin's dependencies, it could run.

You'll most likely want to look for something like Meebo if you want to
IM from within a browser.

What does pl mean?

Generally, asking for step by step instructions on a peer support
mailing list is not a productive use of the list. If someone is
prepared to write you a step by step guide on the list, they would have
been prepared to do it and leave it on a web site.

The most effective use of a list is to try to do something yourself and
then ask for help on the specific problems, as you encounter them, and
after you have searched for solutions.

As a start though, you will need to install a supported OS and subscribe
to a supported IM service. Looking at your email headers, your OS may
be supported.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

You need to follow the password recovery procedure for the IM service
that you are using, Pidgin is a multi-protocol client it doesn't
provide the actual service so the password handling is done by the
actual service provider i.e. AIM, MSN, Google etc.

moving accounts to a new computer

2012-01-07 Thread Jeff Halfhide
I just got a new computer and I'm trying to transfer my accounts from my
old computer.

Version on old computer: Pidgin 2.10.0 (libpurple 2.10.0)
Version on new computer: Pidgin 2.10.1 (libpurple 2.10.1)

First I copied the entire .purple directory to the new computer. = no
accounts found.

Then I tried to follow the instructions here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/15053/sync-your-pidgin-profile-across-multiple-pcs-with-dropbox/

Same exact results (after I got the symbolic link to work).

Now it isn't working on any computer...
