Re: Ongoing support for Yahoo protocol?
Hi Eion, Thanks, the hangouts plugin worked. I had a bit of trouble with the auth, because the dialog from Pidgin took me to a page Google said I didn't have access to. But it did eventually work - I think I needed to be signed into my Google account in the browser first. Thanks again, Cheers, Adrian. Well, Google Talk/Google Chat was recently rebranded as "Google Hangouts" and I'm using Pidgin to speak using it without any major problems using Google's XMPP interface. Some other alternatives are: 1. XMPP - open source and standard and distributed. 2. Facebook - see <https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook>https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook . Works pretty well in Pidgin. Regards,     Shlomi Fish *--* | Adrian J. M. Hi Eion, Excellent! Thanks for that. It looks like the new protocol is a bit short on functionality so far though. No buddy list or buddy status will be painful, the way I use Messenger. :-( Might have to look for a new protocol to use. Even Google Talk is dead now too! Cheers, Adrian. Ongoing support for Yahoo protocol?
Hi, Yahoo has announced it is shutting down the current Messenger system in favour of a 'new and improved' system. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/yahoo-messenger-for-web/SLN26860.html The shutdown is supposedly going to be complete at the end of August 2016 (less than a couple of weeks away!).
