Looks like that's it, and I'm not seeing skypeweb in the distribution
archives.  In fact, it hasn't even left RFP:

Skype doesn't seem to log in....

Running Pidgin 2.12.0 (libpurple 2.12.0) on Debian stretch (testing).
(Note, Stretch is frozen, but not yet declared stable.)

Just added the Skype plugin, but I'm not getting a password prompt - as
such, it seems to be struggling to log in.  Doesn't seem to be anything
in the documentation on how to get around this. 

In a nutshell... help? =D

Got it.  Think I found the pertinent problem: looks like a DNS issue,
a zone change may have happened and the names don't exist anymore. Log
follows from latest attempt.

This said, if there's a Hangouts plugin, I'll see if I can find it.

Google automatically signed out, won't sign in - can't figure out what went wrong...

Running Pidgin 2.11.0 in Linux (Debian Squeeze - or whatever's about to
go stable)

Recently, Pidgin just signed itself out - and is throwing an "unable to
connect" error.  I have made no changes to the account profile, and
there's no further information because I can't seem to find a debug
option. Only symptom I can give is this: when I hit "Reconnect", it
fails within about a half a second.  

In short, I'm looking for one of a couple different things - if
something's changed on Google's side, how to get that information
(debug option?), or something.  Help a guy out? =D

Queenie,

You will need to contact the host server (e.g., Yahoo).  Pidgin does not 
provide the end, it's a program designed to use those services.

Google says to require encryption.  Try with that, do not select the
allow plaintext option, and let's see what's happening. 

Initial guess is bad password, but I need more information.

Sopesh, my suspicion is that you are copying this from an HTML or XML
document (or even a Word document), and it is basically converting the
entire chunk of code that is a clickable link into raw code, which is
then transmitted.  

What happens if you paste that link into notepad?  

If the result is the same, then you will want to provide something to
your associates so that only the email address is pasted - that is,
good old fashioned text.

If you're getting an error that says your password is not valid, then you 
are probably typing in the wrong password.  My suggestion is to verify the 
password by logging directly into Yahoo with your account, and without 
using the saved password in your browser.

can be corrctions.  To catch people up, Carrie is having issues with
configuration - will not connect  

Screenshots are from the account settings in Accounts - acct in
question - Modify.  They reveal XMPP, username carrie, domain
petflow.com, password filled and remembered; require encryption, port
5222, FTP proxy.eu.jabber.org, custom smiles; proxy=global. Important
note, Carrie is a Google Apps user.

Carrie, please respond to the list with the OS you are using, as well
as the Pidgin version you are using if we need further information.

If it says you have the wrong/invalid password, you have the wrong/invalid 
password.  Pidgin does nothing for this, nor is it a central service.


To solve this, please log into the instant messenger service page you are

Persistent waiting for network connection and buddy lists don't load on open

Running Pidgin 2.7.3 in Debian Stable, installed from the repositories.

Two things seem to be happening in the client. 

One, whenever I open the client when I log in, none of the lists load.
This is remedied by opening the account management window, and
disabling and re-enabling each protocol. 

The second thing that happens is the Waiting for network connection
bit remains in the status pulldown toward the bottom of the window.

For tourist information, I have configured a Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, AIM, and
two XMPP connections (one for Livejournal, one for Gmail).  

How can I fix this?

You're probably typing it wrong - or your username syntax is incorrect. 
Check with your administrator on this.  Note that Pidgin is just the 
software and the means to the end - if the password is wrong, it is not 
Pidgin.

This is not a correct statement.  Passwords are not encrypted in the
accounts.xml file in any way.

Pidgin would be security neutral - that is, it is as secure as the 
environment you use it with.


To expound here, Pidgin provides support for standard security 
features as available through all the IM protocols it supports.  Moreover, 
passwords are NOT stored in plaintext (examination of 
~/.purple/accounts.xml) - I'm not clear on the encryption scheme though.

You need to make sure your username and password match the service you are 
using.


Please note that Pidgin is not an instant messenger protocol unto itself, 
it's a client for many instant messenger protocols.

Sabine, this is an action on Google's side.  Go to your Google Plus site 
and adjust accordingly.  For assistance on this, seek out the Google Plus 
support forums - and do explain, objectively, what is happening, and what 
you have attempted to do in order to ameliorate the problem.

On the Control Panel, look for Programs and Settings, or Install/Remove 
Applications.  Remove from there.  This works for any version of Windows 
since Windows 95.

Account is going to be selectable for whatever account will be in use. This 
will be a pulldown once you set those up.

User name is whatever username they have set up on a given system. So if it's 
AOL, and you have user foobar, you put foobar in there.

Alias is just how you know them. This field is whatever you want.

For the password, that's whatever password you have. See the provider if you 
have forgotten this.

First, please, turn off the caps lock.  This would go for the jabber 
connection as well.


Second, you have to log onto a Jabber server - if they have Jabber, ask 
them what server they're on, and locate the server details.  If you need 
an account for that server, create one.

Yahoo failure?

been noticing of late that Yahoo's IM facilities have been timing out and 
simply not responding. My next step is to recreate the account, but I'm 
not sure that this will fix the problemm - it doesn't seem to be a logical 
step yet.
That said, has anyone else experienced this, and what have you done to fix 
it if anything?

Can't load smileys?

Just built 2.5.8 in Debian Lenny (and aptitude'd all the appropriate
lib*-dev packages), but now when I run, it won't start.

From a terminal window, I get this:

pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol:
purple_smileys_get_all

Note the association with libpurple-dev 2.4.3-4lenny2.

In short, what's missing, and how to fix?
