If by 'redo' you mean add accounts.. Yes.
It's just like installing any program with settings. If you install a
program at work, how do you expect your home computer to magically have
settings from a completely separate computer?

Evan by means of "abracadabra", of course. Duh. Anyway, first of all,
Pidgin only needs to be installed and upon login, all contacts for
that account should load, no matter what computer is at question; So
why not help the girl out...

Victoria, it's no secret that IM contacts are kept on the server, so
just grab Pidgin from their page http://www.pidgin.im/download/ then
install it, use your login and password and you should be good to go.

I thought I did. The OP's question was pretty vague:

"however, when i try to access it from my home computer i cannot - why
is this?" ... "do i need to redo everything at home? "

My suggestion and question to the OP was asking to clarify did she add
the accounts on the home computer?

That's what I suggested. But as the OP hasn't responded, we may never know.

For which protocol?

If you're using the latest version (2.5.8), this is almost certainly
going to be caused by an incorrect username or password.

No, Pidgin isn't the updated Mxit version - Pidgin is a multiprotocol
IM client that a Mxit plugin exists for.

You'll need to install the Mxit plugin (from here:
http://devzone.mxit.com/libPurple/) and to select that protocol for
your account.

We don't have any control over your accounts, Pidgin is just a client.
You will have to follow the instructions on the website of the
relevant account's protocol (e.g. AIM,MSN, etc.) to make changes like
this to your account.

I don't think you understand. Pidgin support is done via a mailing
list, there is no physical support department, everything is done by a
combination of the developers and users who help out.

If you want help with your original problem then that's what happens,
mailing list archives are common.

Hi,

Meebo rooms run on (mostly) standard Jabber conference servers. The
room name is of course "dhammalmastichatroom" The server name isn't
really advertised anywhere, but you can see it in a few places in the
Meebo UI if you poke around. In this case this room is on
conference.gc1.meebo.org. You can join the room in Pidgin by signing
into an XMPP account (you can use your Meebo username as the username
and "meebo.org" as the server), then Buddies->Join a Chat and enter
that room name and server.

The accepted soluton is to uncheck clientLogin, not SSL Login. Please
pay attention to all of the other emails on the topic when forming
your reply.

It's not clear that either solution is more correct than the other,
but at least if we give everyone the same advice we can give them the
same advice to fix it later when this is resolved.

I was just going by the solution that I came to on my own. While the
accepted solution by the majority might be to uncheck clientLogin, I
don't feel proper in suggesting something that I didn't try.

Agreed. I was unaware that a consensus had been reached, though. I've
not been able to reply (or even check) my email for almost two weeks
before about two days ago. When I downloaded all the mail that had
collected in my account, I just marked all as read and jumped in at the
next question that I had a solution for. My apologies for not being on
board with the rest of the group.

I have no idea what Hardy Hedgehog is, to be honest. As for the issues
you are having, I don't use Google Talk so I cannot help with that, and
I'm not having any Problems with Yahoo (my problems were with AIM and

There is no such thing as a Pidgin account. You will have an instant
messaging account with some service provider, and you need to make sure
that you are providing the right credentials for that account.

You should contact that service provider regarding the credentials.

We will need to know who they are, or see the contents of your debug

There is no such thing as a Pidgin account. You will have an instant
messaging account with some service provider, and you need to make sure
that you are providing the right credentials for that account.

You should contact that service provider regarding the credentials.

We will need to know who they are, or see the contents of your debug
window, even to suggest typical problems associated with that provider.

"Not Authorized" generally means "wrong password". You'll either need to
update your password in pidgin, create an app password, or switch to the
Hangouts plugin which uses oauth.

Are you using Pidgin on Windows? If so - which version and arch? Anyway, do you
keep logs in Pidgin? If not, you can configure them? What is the protocol in
question?

You need to set up an account in Pidgin using XMPP. In the account tab
of the Account properties you enter your username as shown in your from
address to this list, and the domain as gmail.com, then you can enter
your password and a Resource string describing what you want (I use
'Home' for instance, but anything will do).

On the advanced tab I have connect port as 5222 and connect server as
talk.google.com which I believe is all that is necessary.

Try that and ask again if it doesn't work for you.

You can also leave the resource blank.

The connect server is not necessary on networks with functioning DNS
servers.

I would check out the auto away plugin. It sends a msg to someone when
they have sent you a msg and you are set as away.

How did you make that change in the first place? Did you set it from in
pidgin but you cannot recall how you did it?

Did you use the Accounts->[MSN Account]->Set Friendly Name menu item?

Without some debugging information, it's hard to guess what might be happening.

Do you have PHP installed on your system?

See the debugging instructions here:
http://d.pidgin.im/wiki/TipsForBugReports to get a crash report and a
debug log.

libpurple is included with the pidgin binaries and its source code is
part of the pidgin sources.

Moreover, most such questions from oracle email addresses appear to
relate to a private instant messaging server run by Oracle. We have no
knowledge of that server, but for a normal medium to large business, it
would be managed by the IT department of the business.

Given the large number of inappropriate requests on this mailing list
from Oracle, when you find the correct people, please explain to them
why you went to the wrong place and suggest how they could avoid that in
future.

Also point out to that these questions give the impression that there is
a low level of computer literacy amongst Oracle employees.
