I do like pidgin too.

I want to make a warning against Telegram. It violates the privacy of
you in two matters:

1. It shows to the sender (with read confirmation) that you have read
the message of the sender. I contacted Telegram.org and they claim that
this is not a bug, but a feature. You can not disable this "feature".

2. It shows to at least all your contacts (I think even to everyone who
knows your mobile number) that you are "online" and you can not disable
this either.

this is the same violation of privacy; and to answer your question: I
send a msg/mail and wait for the answer;

imagine tomorrow you will get a voice call, which you do not want to
pick up for whatever reason, and the provider says to the caller: we let
it ring and we know the person heared it, but the person did not wante
to answer the call; is this what you want?

Your BB email app is as broken as it violates privacy. Look, it puts
your message below my signature which let your message appear as my
text. ¡Qie asco!

Your statement above about contacts/privacy is nonsense. Imagine your
boss calls (and is in your contacts) and the provider says to him: your
employee does not pick up the call. Do you want this?

BlackBerry makes THE most secure devices on the market. It violates no such
privacy. If you don't want an employer knowing if you are online, don't add to,
or if added, delete from, your contacts. And if you don't want to talk to them,
don't pick up the phone. I assume, but have no knowledge of the telegram add-on.

At least give me an intelligent argument, not this stuff advertising that you
have little knowledge the topic of which you write.

In addition, why do you think Pidgin allows the user to set the state
'invisible'?

But, I don't know if Pidgin was ported to that BB device or
if the porter has disabled that feature for the BB users so that they
are always visible when connected.

See also:

And the plugin (or manual addition?) linked in the comments:

https://github.com/majn/telegram-purple

This probably isn't the place for discussing privacy aspects of protocol
design, though. That's a complicated and hairy topic.

However, I can't help but add my one sentence of advice: Telegram has a
habit of being a little cinematic and their crypto is apparently
questionable. I'd much rather see Axolotl/Signal/TextSecure added as
default prpls. ;)
