Solved - How to convert from Seamonkey 1.1.13 to 2.1b3

2012-04-23 Thread Yaakov Nahum Ben-Avraham - Яаков Нахум Бен-Аврахам - יעקב נחום בן אברהם

I converted from Seamonkey 1.1.13 on Slackware 12.2
to Seamonkey 2.1b3 on Slackware 13.37 by following
this rather cumbersome procedure.

(1) Set up Slackware 13.37 Linux kernel 2.6.37.6 on
new machine and create/log in as normal user.

(2) $ rm -rf .mozilla

(3) $ startx

(4) $ mozilla (in window)

(5) [exit mozilla]

(6) $ cd .mozilla/seamonkey

(7) $ rm -rf *.slt

(8) $ scp -p -r -v root@oldsys:/home/olduser/.mozilla/seamonkey/*.slt
browser.default

(9) ~/.mozilla/seamonkey$ vi profiles.ini
change the last line
 Path=.slt
 to
 Path=browser.default

(10) ~/.mozilla/seamonkey$ cd

(11) $ startx

(12) $ mozilla (in window)

(13) [exit mozilla]

*** ALL DONE ***

 - Yaakov

p.s. Why does Seamonkey create files with confounded "*.slt" names in
.mozilla/seamonkey?

You might be interested on a series of blog posts Mike Kaply recently
wrote on customizing Firefox. Among other things, he teaches how to
include an extension as part of Firefox and to forbid users from
removing it.

You can make it do a disappearing act by adding this:

 #addons-page { display: none !important; }

Would this modification hide also the menu -> "Tools" -> "Add-ons
Manager" ?

And also render inoperant the keyboard keys: Ctrl+Shift+A ?

So, SM cannot show the saved headers which are in the .txt file.

In SM 2.8 I show exactly the same headers no matter how saved.

I am under Win7 pro 32 bits:
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120312
Firefox/11.0 SeaMonkey/2.8

And i agree I show exactly the same headers no matter how saved
What i complain for is:
When i saved it as .txt notepad show the headers SM also show the
headers.

BUT when i saved as .txt, then **i* *change* *the* *extension* *to*
*.eml** - double-click on it = opens in SM
And in this case SM cannot show the headers.

Sure enough, I can trick SM into doing that too, if I go to the
trouble. The info is in the file, but the browser does not display it.
I also noticed that there seems to be a line break after each of the
spaces between field name and field data, so perhaps SM is ignoring
lines that don't begin with approved field names? If I go into the eml
file with Notepad and edit out those line breaks, SM then displays the
data correctly. It works the same whether I use a space or a tab to
separate field name/field data.

But why change the extension when saving and then change it back
later? Why not just leave it as eml and let SM handle it properly?

Because .txt files are smaller than .eml files. But, i have seen other
points not handled by SM when i fool it changing .txt to .eml.

So you are right; It's better to save it as .eml. Thanks for the analysis.

Re: unable to save email message as draft

This is the first time I have seen this error. I also frequently save
compositions. I have taken to saving a copy of long compositions in note

Is this a known bug, or should it be posted somewhere?

I get this error frequently.

Sometimes it's because I'm forwarding a message with embedded graphics

Other times there is no apparent reason -- occasionally forcing me to
retype all unsaved text in a simple email I'm composing. Needless to
say this has trained me to hit "Save" often while composing emails in
Seamonkey -- the way one must when working in Word, for instance...

Opening search window pops up using Google

2012-04-23 Thread Stan
This is something new in the past week or two. Sometimes, when I am
entering text into the Google search field, I will type a few characters
and a window entitled Open Search pops up.

The window starts out: You have chosen to open (text ixon) search which
is a: application/json from: https://www.google.com What should
SeaMonkey do with this file? Open with, Save File. Do this
automatically for files like this from now on.

What is that all about and how do I prevent it?

Please help me figure this out, thanks!

The first thing you will want to do is make your web document
compatible for web standards, and then for Internet Explorer. Within
your tables declarations you have used a CSS element called:
margin-right: auto; and margin-left: auto; IE ignores those elements
if the is not compatible.

Your : Transitional//EN">

Change your to: Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd";>
Notice the quotes after the EN and the complete doctype. The entire
doctype should be on a single line with only one blank space between
the quots of EN and http://

You will need to modify the doctype in a text editor and set Komposer
(Composer) to not change the HTML coding when opening a web document.

Good luck,

Michael G

So if you must fiddle after SM-composer save. you have a bug in

How do I go about doing this in a fail-safe manner?

- Yaakov

Kernel levels are irrelevant for this operation, Slackware levels are
also meaningless for those of us who do not use Slackware.

I believe the conversion is done automatically when you start the newer
Seamonkey, although I would make some preparations first:
- Clear your Cache
- take a backup of your $home/.mozilla directory (this is the
"fail-safe" part).
- Start the new Seamonkey.

I seem to remember reading that the newest versions of Seamonkey no
longer contain the code to migrate 1.x levels, but your Seamonkey level
is old enough for that not to be a problem.

Yes, when I read the OP, I was wondering why Yaakov was just going to
SM2.1b3 and why to a b3 level at all?? Why not to SM2.1 final, and then
update through to SM2.8 or the soon to be released SM2.9??

I tried to use Slackware for a while in the mid 90's and seem to
remember that updating software was . . . pretty fraught. Then again,
configuring it to do what I wanted was pretty fraught as well so I
checked out Red Hat and SuSE and then moved on.
Going back to the point, Slackware 13.37 was released a year ago this
week, my guess would be that it came with that level of Seamonkey.

Yeah!! I wondered if the SM2.1b3 had come with a distribution, as well.

And I know nothing bout Slackware, so, perhaps, I shouldn't have commented!
