Remembering passworrd

2012-06-04 Thread Mr. Cheese
I've been using SM for years. The first time I open mail
(mail.optonline.net) I'm asked for my password. SM remembers from that
point on. All of a sudden I'm asked for a PW each time I open the mail
program. I've check all the optimum and optonline sites using the
database manager and my PW is there for all sites.
I've looked in all the preferences entries and don't see a specific
place to say Save

Is this SM's or my mail provider's problem?

Mr Cheese, have you looked in the Password Manager, Tools-Password
Manager-Manage Stored Passwords?? Is your password saved ?? (you may
need to click Show Passwords when having selected your email
provider!)

Yes. As I said I checked all stored PWs and they are there.

Yes, but does your e-mail providers password show up??

Well, in that case, all I can suggest is that you delete them, then when
you get your mail, enter the password *and* tick the box to remember the

Re: SeaMonkey Copernic Desktop Search?

2012-06-04 Thread George Carden
I have done this, MCBastos, with Thunderbird 12.0.1 and it appears to
have worked. HOWEVER, your warnings to NEVER open Thunderbird again have
me shaking in my boots. Is there any link, such as within Copernic
search result preview pain, etc., that would open Thunderbird if I were
to click it? If it has found a link on a search that is, say, an
attachment of a jpeg, or anything else, or even if I just double-click a
found e-mail in the preview pain to open it, will that open
Thunderbird? I have backed up my SeaMonkey profile as a safety
precaution, but I'm hoping to never need it.

Thanks!

-George

MCBastos wrote:

Interviewed by CNN on 09/02/2012 21:36, George Carden told the world:

Does Copernic Desktop Search function with SeaMonkey 2.7?

Not directly. But I managed to find a workaround.

What I did was to install a copy of Thunderbird 3.1.x, run it once
without adding any accounts (so it creates its own profiles), then edit
the Thunderbird profiles.ini (you can find it in %APPDATA%\Thunderbird)
in order to make it point to *Seamonkey's* profile instead of Thunderbirds.

My Thunderbird profiles.ini looks like this:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=../Mozilla/Seamonkey/Profiles/27kymd3w.default

Once this is done, you must NEVER open Thunderbird again (well, unless
you turn back the profiles.ini to its original values beforehand).
There's a non-trivial risk of damaging your profile if you do so, since
the structure of Seamonkey's profiles and Thunderbird's profiles is
likely different (Thunderbird 3.1 uses an older version of Gecko, for
instance -- and doesn't include some components Seamonkey has.)

I tried uninstalling Thunderbird afterwards (for maximum safety and to
free a bit of space), but Copernic stopped scanning my e-mails. So,
there's something in a valid Thunderbird install that it needs. Since I
have a lot of hard disk space and this is a non-shared computer, having
an inactive TB does not cause me problems, so I didn't try to figure out
what is it that Copernic needs.

I didn't try this with a newer release of Thunderbird, either. Copernic
only claims compatibility with releases up to 3.1, but it *might* work.
If you try it, please report your results.

 Huh? 41megs 4Mbyte

No, 41 megabytes per open tab.

12 tabs uses 440 megs, right?

My calculator reports that 41 times 12 equals 492.

But if GerardJan has (only) 4Mbytes of physical memory, how does he
fit that 41 meg tab into it?

Win 7 32-bit, 4Gb RAM, SM 2.9.1. 12 tabs open. 155,740 Kb of RAM used.

Now you're trying to confuse me :)
 GerardJan wrote 4Mbytes. You write 4Gb Ram! 12 x 41 = 492 megs. But you
write that 12 tabs use 155,740 Kb of RAM! Are you discussing the same
 case Ed?

Gerard had to have mis-typed. No modern PC has anything less than 512
Mb to 1 Gb of RAM.

GerardJan frequently does. He has also freely admitted that he
occasionally forgets his medication. ;-)

My PC (one of five) has 4 GIGA-bytes of RAM.

..as does mine.

I just started a fresh SeaMonkey 2.8 (Linux), opened 12 tabs (each with
my local start page) and it is using a total of 44.56 MB of RAM. Another
fresh start with just a single tab uses 39.81 MB.

I don't remember if anyone mentioned exactly *what* pages were open in
all their tabs, which could make a huge difference in everyone's readings.

Ask ONCE, then listen.

First you have to set gmail to allow you to retrieve mail this way. By
default, it's set to allow you to read mail only through their web
interface.

After logging in to webmail, click the gear at the upper right corner,
and choose Settings. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP, and in the POP
Download section, choose Enable POP for all mail. Save Changes and
log out, and you'll then be able to retrieve gmail using SeaMonkey or
any other email client.

In the SeaMonkey account settings panel, under Server Settings, this works:
Server Name: pop.gmail.com, port 995
User Name: akiefn
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication method: Normal password

Now when you try to retrieve mail, SM will prompt you to enter your
password.

If this doesn't work, post back here ONCE and someone will help you.

Anthony, Have a look at Tools-Password Manager-Manage Stored
Passwords. In the left hand column, select your gmail account and then,
in the bottom right of screen, click Show Passwords

If it doesn't show your correct password, you may have to delete the
entry, then add the correct information when you next try to access your
gmail account.

Word to the wise.at times, when I've had troubles with my usenet

asking for my Password. If I didn't look hard, I'd be entering my

First, I would schedule a disk check. On other operating systems, I've
had caching issues chew up settings in my msgFilterRules.dat file (I'
too, have close to 100 filters). I've also recently seen this with saved
search folder settings (that file is located in the main profile
directory, whereas the filter configuration itself is stored in the mail
account directory).

Keep a backup of msgFilterRules.dat on hand, so that you can easily
restore your settings should you notice something awry again.

Best advice from here, off the top of my head.

This was first reported here in April (see quoted message below). Since
you're still running v. 2.8, upgrading to the current version 2.9.1

Re: How to use Seamonkey with www.gmail.com?

2012-06-04 Thread Ray Davison

First tell gmail where to send it.
Then make a SM mail account that gets mail from pop.gmail.com.
Password is whatever you use on the gmail site.
Set connection security to SSL.

Outgoing is smtp.gmail.com.

I find Gmail to be very handy on the road. Many hot spots do not have a
mail server, so I cannot send from SM thru my Charter account. But I
can reply to a Charter message by sending it thru gmail.

Send Later 3 add-on released for SeaMonkey

2012-06-04 Thread Jonathan Kamens
FYI, I've just uploaded to addons.mozilla.org a new beta
release of the Send Later 3 add-on which supports SeaMonkey.
You can download and try it out from here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/send-later-3/versions/4.0beta2

Send Later 3 is a popular Thunderbird add-on (five stars, over
108,000 downloads, over 24,000 users) which allows you to
schedule the time for messages to be sent.

Please try it out and let me know what you think!

I have Windows 7 ultimate and my browser is Seamonkey 2.9.1 and I need to
know what incoming and outgoing server names to use so I can use Seamonkey
to read and send emails using gmail.com, and also, what about the password
for my email? I am Anthony Kiefer Newman and please reply to me at
 aki...@gmail.com . THANKS!!!

Just follow the gmail instructions for other e-mail clients and then
check the recommended settings for Thunderbird.
