It says it won't work in 2.14

Working fine for me in the latest updated SM.

Before you comment, try it. Online docs for such things lag behind reality.

The install.rdf file in the version from addons.mozilla.org says it is
compatible only through SeaMonkey 2.1b1. The install.rdf file in the
version from the Rosenthal & Rosenthal FTP site says it is compatible
through SeaMonkey 2.*, which means it should still be compatible for
SeaMonkey 2.14.

my own IP is trying to set a cookie in some accounts

2012-11-24 Thread LMH
This very odd behavior started right after updating to 2.14. It only
occurs in one account, so it may have nothing to do with the update.

When I open my browser, I get a prompt to allow the setting of a cookie
from my homepage (a yahoo site), and then I get a prompt to allow a
cookie to be set from an IP address (no domain name). After looking it
up, I was surprised to find that it is the Comcast WAN IP from my own
router. What software could this be that is setting a cookie from my own
IP address when I connect? I found the same cookie in firefox, which was
set to private browsing. When I changed firefox to "ask me every time"
for cookie permissions, I did not get a prompt to allow setting of the
cookie when I open firefox, so I can't seem to duplicate this in
firefox. I get this prompt every time I open seamonkey unless I
permanently create a rule. This has never happened before, so it seems
very odd. It is also odd that it doesn't happen in my other seamonkey
profiles.

Has anyone else seen this happen? There is nothing in the cookie, and it
doesn't seem to change when I surf, so I'm not sure what it is doing.
New things that happen out of the blue always capture my attention.

Uhhh... I may be missing something, but this also uses the annoying
"click here to load more" UI. The only difference (besides a cleaner
screen) is that it says "tap" instead of "click."

That Web page has 30 XHTML errors and 45 CSS errors. The problem may
easily be caused by any combination of those errors.

If you go to my home Web page (per my signature below) and hover your
mouse over any link, a yellow background will appear around that link.
To me, that proves that mousehover is indeed working.

Well I tried it and sure enough got the yellow background but what else

email glitch

2012-11-24 Thread Not@home
Yesterday, my windows vista system was upgraded to the latest version of
seamonkey. Part way through the day, I stopped receiving emails. I get
a message that the folder is being updated and I should wait to get
emails, but one email (the same one, repeatedly,) is all I ever get, yet
when I go to my ISP website there are many new emails on their server.

I don't seem to have any problem receiving usenet items.

Where should I look for a solution?

My wife received her new computer (Windows 7). She d/l SM 2.14

recover her profile from her older computer, we copied the saved copy
from her thumb drive and pasted it into a new profile which we had
emptied out.

SM fails when she tries to start using the new profile, saying it
can't
find the "bookmarks.html" file from her *default* profile (the one we
supposedly aren't using). Note: On her old computer her SM home page
was
"Bookmarks.html", which somehow doesn't show up in the copied profile.

Questions: What did we do wrong? Why can't she use the saved/copied
profile?

Larry

Larry, what version of SeaMonkey was your wife using?? Since Ver 2.1 or
so, bookmarks (and History and some other stuff) have been stored in a
file called places.sqlite

Good question, Daniel, but probably not the issue. She's using 2.14,

Yes, you typed that, Larry. I asked "what version of SeaMonkey was your
wife using??" meaning on her old computer??

but
here's the problem. While the notice is that the file can't be found, it
says that it can't be found in the *default* profile. The problem is
that at the time she's using the *new* profile, so there shouldn't be a
search for the file in the other one. Seems to be the wrong message, but
we can't make it go away.

Have a look at Tools->Switch Profiles. How many profiles are listed??
Could it be that her "new profile" *is* the "default profile"??

Note: Of course there's no "bookmarks.html" in the default profile since
that was part of the brand new d/l of 2.14 into the brand new computer.
The file has not been created yet. But that's the wrong place to look!

Questions: (1) Was copying the profile contents from the saved copy into
a newly-created profile the right way to do it?,

Yes, that would do, as long as some of the files have undergone the
conversion process back in Ver 2.1 approx

  and (2) Was there
something else to do to use the new profile, other than Tools>Switch
Profiles?

Thanks for your help over the years!

Larry

No, if it has been converted and located.

Problem solved! See my reply to Ed Mullen. However, to answer your
questions:
-- She was previously using 2.13.2.
-- Both profiles are listed in Switch Profiles, and the new one was
selected.
So, it wasn't a file conversion problem, but inattention on my part.
Nevertheless, your questions were good ones, as the conversion process
has often been a source of problems.

Thank you for your help, even though the answer went another direction.
You've save my life (well, my SM anyhow) on several other occasions, and
are a greatly appreciated resource here.

Larry

Yes, Larry, I had read your response to Ed with the good news! Don't you
wish, sometimes, that some (loved ones and others) would fix their own
problems??

And there are a lot of people, here-abouts, doing what they can for the
benefits of others!!
