started recently with v11.6 and v11.7 IIRC. It seems to happen a lot
lately. I tried clearing caches, but that doesn't seem to help.

I keep my SeaMonkey, Windows, and Flash player plugins/addon updated. I
never see this problem on my office machine with 64-bit W7 EE SP1 and
similiar softwares installed.
http://pastie.org/private/biufyftsz7kofbu1kk6q for my Process Explorer

I'm troubled by frequent Flash crashes with the latest version (W7+, SM
2.17.1, Shockwave Flash 11.7.700.169). I suppose I have to go to a
previous version since this has only started with the most recent
update. Any suggestions where to find a version that doesn't crash and
which is the best one to use for Seamonkey?

You know what's weird? I never have crashes in 64-bit W7 SP1, but do in
XP Pro. SP3. :(

What happens when you try to telnet the news server?
You should get something like

  telnet news.bigpond.com 119
200 Welcome Message (news server id)

If you do connect, use quit without the quotes to exit.
This assumes that your secret instructions did not change the port
number from the default of 119.

I get

If I ping it it tries 4 times and says timed out.

I don't think pinging that server has worked for a long time - unless
the daemon is running it just ignores the ping and hence the time out.

That's why you should try to telnet the nntp server itself.

Here's a couple of examples:

This still works:
=
telnet news.thundernews.com 119
200 Welcome Message (newsfe10.iad)
quit
205 Goodbye

Connection to host lost.

And another (telstra) one with a different response

telnet reader.news.telstra.net 119
502 pit-reader.telstra.net: Access denied to your node -
newsmas...@telstra.net

Connection to host lost.

So what do YOU get when you try to telnet to bigpond news server?
Rememberm this removes seamonkey from the picture.

The connect failed that I get says that port 119 is open, but that the
NNTP server is not running, at least not listening to port 119. Hence my
other question about your secret email - did it talk about port 119,
another port, or none. If none, then the default of 119 is expected.

To isolate the cause of the issue please consider the following process.

1. Check connectivity to the Internet. Double-Click on Internet Explorer

You know what's weird? I never have crashes in 64-bit W7 SP1, but do in

Not that weird. XP is in terminal life-support as it is, with the plug
scheduled to be pulled April 2014. Microsoft simply does not bother to
fix anything that is not a security issue or a really big showstopper
nowadays. And in one year's time, not even that.

If the new edition of the Flash plugin touches something in Windows that
is revealed to be not as robust as it should be... well, tough luck for
XP users. From Steve Ballmer's POV, they should be forking money to buy
Windows 8 anyway, so anything that makes XP more annoying to use is not
really a problem for him.

There's this meme going around that XP is somehow perfect as it is.
Sorry to say, but it's simply not true. XP has numerous issues, some of
them entrenched very deep in its basic architecture. I'm working on
phasing it out from my customers, and good riddance -- every time I
upgrade a machine from XP to Win7 (in the same hardware, mind you)
support issues go down. If a machine is not good enough to run Win7, it
is too old to keep in service anyway. (My rule of the thumb is 1 Gb
RAM, dual-core CPU and 80 Gb HD -- but I have obtained surprisingly
good results even with half those specs)

If I could not register a new GPS device without installing
a manufacturer-specific plugin, I would return the device
immediately and get one from a more enlightened manufacturer.

But if you are /really/ willing to risk compromising your
computer by installing a plug-in that you don't really
want, have you checked that your system meets all the
pre-requisites :

Supports Windows XP SP3 and later.
Supports Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3.6+, Safari 5+, or Chrome 8+.
This download only supports Windows computers. For the Mac download of
 Garmin Communicator Plugin click here.
This software requires Windows Media Player 11 or greater (a free
 download from Microsoft).

Number of URLs shown in the History window.

2013-04-30 Thread Ilya

Hello, guys.

In the History window SeaMonkey only shows me URLs that I visited in the
recent three months, but the history.dat file in the profile folder
takes about 80 mb, which lets me assume it contains much more data on
the visited sites.

Is there a way to display all the visited sites, not only those visited
in the recent three months? May be some preferences accessible via
about:config? (didn't manage to find anything though).
