I'd like to say this work around works for me with the
alt.binaries.pictures.scenic newsgroup, but it doesn't on my Usenet-News
account. Could it be my news server? All I see is "Downloading articles
1-1 in alt.binaries.pictures.scenic" in the status bar, and no activity
on my DSL router.

It works with images posted in the mozilla.test.multimedia newsgroup.

And now it is working in the alt.binaries.pictures.scenic newsgroup.

Occasionally working. Sigh. Just use Thunderbird, they load instantly.

Thanks, I think I'll stay with SM 2.26.1 until it's 'fixed', hopefully sooner
rather than later.

Enigmail and SeaMonkey 2.33

2015-03-15 Thread NoOp
I found that upgrading to SeaMonkey 2.33 (linux and Windows) with the
Enigmail extension causes mailnews accounts to show as "Invalid
Account". So I checked around and found a few bugs related. Asked on the
Enigmail mail list & this is the result:

So there you go. If you use enigmail you will need to use the 1.8
nightlies until 1.8 is officially realeased.

Seems that the:

"Enigmail is a security extension to Mozilla Thunderbird and Seamonkey.
It enables you to write and receive email messages signed and/or
encrypted with the OpenPGP standard."
Should probably be changed to "Enigmail is a security extension to
Mozilla Thunderbird & if resources are available maybe SeaMonkey"...

Is there a viable alternative to Enigmail for SeaMonkey (Windows and Linux)?

I don't know how you would get the old profile to work.

Maybe you could open about:config in the old profile, search for "media"

If that doesn't work, I would copy everything except "prefs.js" from the

Is there some way that I can just print out the e-mail w/o all that
"Stuff" at the top ?

i.e. - Subject, From, Date, then the text...?

Before printing, go to View > Headers > Normal.

If you want all the headers displayed on screen, but not printed, I'm
not sure how to do that other than changing that option every time you
print. I keep it set to Normal, and on occasions when I want to check
other headers I just press Ctrl+U (shortcut for View > Message Source).

Mark.

What DB can do "on the fly" is click the little, downward pointing,
triangle next to Subject, turning the downwards pointing triangle into a
sideways pointing triangle:. This should reduce the Header area to just
one line, the Subject: line.

That doesn't affect what's printed though. If View > Headers is set to
All, it still prints all the headers.

Issues & solutions updating SeaMonkey 2.26.1 to 2.33

2015-03-15 Thread mozilla-lists . mbourne
I've just updated SeaMonkey 2.26.1 to 2.33 on Windows Vista. Some notes
on a few issues and solutions I came across, in case they help anyone
else...

First off, back up your profile before updating - usually a good idea
anyway, just in case the new version messes something up in the profile
such that it won't even work in the old version.

1. Crash on Startup - due to missing xulstore.json
2. UI Customisations Lost - does anyone know a solution?
3. Saves Passwords Lost - fix found

1. Crash on Startup - due to missing xulstore.json
---
After updating, every time I started SeaMonkey with the old profile, it
prompted for the master password but crashed after cancelling that
prompt. I tracked this down to xulstore.json being missing from my
existing profile folder. Creating an empty xulstore.json file in the
root of the profile allowed SeaMonkey to start. To find your profile
folder, see:

  http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_SeaMonkey

I've reported this at:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1143503

It may be relevant that I have two Windows user accounts set up. One a
standard user account, and the other an administrator account (which I
mainly use through UAC - I hardly ever log in to it directly). To update
SeaMonkey, I ran it as Administrator, checked for updates and allowed it
to update. Restarted SeaMonkey, again run as Administrator, to apply the
update. SeaMonkey crashed the first time after applying the update, but
was then OK running as Administrator. However, running as the standard
user it crashed every time immediately after dismissing the prompt for
master password.

2. UI Customisations Lost - does anyone know a solution?
-
After fixing the above issue, a lot of the UI had reverted to defaults.
For example:

- All mail folders were collapsed (usually they remember the last state).
- Window division positions were reset (e.g. I previously had the folder
pane wider and the message pane shorter in Mail & News).

- Lightning reverted to day view, rather than month view.

Subsequently changing things and restarting, the customisations are
remembered. This is a one-off reset after the update.

This is probably related to the first issue, since xulstore.json
replaces localstore.rdf for storing UI customisation. See:

  http://kb.mozillazine.org/Localstore.rdf
So creating an empty xulstore.json probably put everything to defaults.
Perhaps an interim update would have converted localstore.rdf to
xulstore.json and avoided both these issues.

I haven't found a solution for this. Does anyone know of an easy way to
convert an old localstore.rdf to xulstore.json format?

3. Saves passwords lost - fix found
---
One I recall someone else mentioning recently. Storage of saved
passwords has also changed at some point since 2.26.1. They're supposed
to be converted, but this hadn't happened. Possibly because I didn't
need to use stored passwords during the first start, so cancelled the
master password prompt.

The solution suggested at:
  http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=13742105#p13742105
worked for me. As noted, this may not work if you've saved any passwords
since upgrading.

Hope that's of some help.
Mark.

First make sure that no other instance is running. At least a reboot
should solve this.

Reboot doesn't solve the problem. That's why I ask here.

Then I would suggest while running as administrator, right clicking on
your task bar, and selecting "Task Manager", find the running instance
in the "Task Manager" and kill any Seamonkey instance that you see.

You should be able to do a clean install after that.

Ok, so what solved the problem:
1. log in to Windows account with admin privileges,
2. give the admin privileges to the other user - the one where the
actual problem occurs,

3. logout and login as the other user with admin privileges just given,
4. start Seamonkey - update process began automatically,
5. after Seamonkey update change user status back to normal user,
6. reboot computer... done!

SeaMonkey's Composer is broken and no longer being worked on. It
is a WYSIWYG product that produces uncompliant HTML code.

Try running your pages through:

Chuckle! I've had a shortcut to that site on my desktop for years.

EditPad Pro is a text editor that includes context specific
formatting/highlighting for a variety of file types including
HTML, PHP, etc.

If you don't know enough about HTML to write a Web page in a text
editor you can still use the process I described.

Edit using Composer. Save the file. Toggle to your browser's
view of the page and refresh.

However, when using a WYSIWYG product like Composer don't rest
assured that just because you like what you see on your system in
your browser means that anyone else will see the same thing.

If I was in a production environment I would likely do
something similar
with the addition of taking a formal short course in HTML.
However, this
is a retiree's personal hobby project. I'm likely the only
person who
will see the HTML version. If I produce anything useful, it
will likely
appear as a plain-text USENET post.

Then why are you fooling around with HTML???

'Cause I know it can do what I want. Just not sure how :}
In any case comments in this thread got me moving down a
productive chain of links to links...

I created a test profile where I installed the Last Password extension.
From only a brief test, I get a strong impression that it saves my
passwords externally, on some remote server. Is this true? That is
definitely NOT what anyone should want.

Even if I encrypt my passwords using Password Manager's master password,
I still want to restrict the storage of my passwords to my own PC.
Password Manager stores the encrypted passwords in the user's profile.
I have four profiles, two of which have passwords. All four passwords
are in a non-standard location.

SM 2.33 YouTube video loading

2015-03-15 Thread EE
Why is loading Flash videos on YouTube harder with SeaMonkey 2.33? I
now have to reload the page before the video will load. I cannot even
load a video from a playlist package without first loading an individual
video. I got the latest Flash plugin, but it did not help.

Just to complicate things, the video download extension I was using no
longer works, and I had to get a new one.

And now it is working in the alt.binaries.pictures.scenic newsgroup.

Occasionally working. Sigh. Just use Thunderbird, they load instantly.

You could try putting it through the [Extension Converter for

Good suggestion, but it didn't help. This message appears:

Warning! This add-on appears to already support SeaMonkey. It is
recommended you do not use the converted version but install the

likely this converter will do more harm than good — unless you only
increase maxVersion — however, your experience may vary. Remember that
on the AMO site you can still install (sometimes) add-ons marked as Not

Won't guarantee that it will work without bugs but you could adjust the
install.rdf. Open the xpi, it's just a zip file and extract the
install.rdf and ope that with notepad. Change the line

from:
1.8

to:
2.*

Save and replace install.rdf in xpi. Then drag and drop xpi file into a
SeaMonkey browser window, install it and see if it works.

Eric, after you've had a crash, and you get an old version of SM
running, can you enter "about:crashes" (without the quotes) in the
address line and report back what is shown??

What would you like to see from it, pretty extensive file. The only
thing that I saw that was interesting was about Last Pass, but nothing
specific about Last Pass.

Several tabs come up available that have a lot of different info.

Let me know what you want to see and I will do my best to provide it.

Eric

Eric, the stuff from about:crashes is gobbledegook to me but it may mean
something to others here-abouts, so post the last few lines (top) of it
here and, hopefully, someone here will know what to do with it.

Additionally, I notice you mentioned "Last Pass" as being problematic in
one of your other posts. Go to Tools->Add-on Manager and disable Last
Pass and then completely close and re-start SeaMonkey and see if it
behaves better.

Okay, so it was the "Last Pass" add-on from the "Seamonkey Extensions"
site. I did what was suggested, and Seamonkey worked again. I then
removed the "Last Pass" extension and re-installed from "Seamonkey
Extensions" same thing happened. Again, I removed the extension, then
downloaded the extension from "LastPass.com" and everything is now
working as it should.

Not sure, but if at all possible, I will be leaving a comment on the
"last pass" extension within "Seamonkey Extensions" about the crashing
issue.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I don't know how you would get the old profile to work.

Maybe you could open about:config in the old profile, search for "media"
settings. All of mine are showing default. If you have any listed as
"User Set", right click and Reset it.

If that doesn't work, I would copy everything except "prefs.js" from the
old profile to the new profile and see if it still works. Then do the
same for all the PC's.

However, it is not compatible, apparently, with SeaMonkey 2.33

I found this version in add-ons...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/googlebar/versions/

But it still doesn't work with SeaMonkey. Anybody have any knowledge of
how I can get Googlebar for SeaMonkey 2.33? One of my favorite tools.
Hate to lose it.

Thanks!

George

You could try putting it through the [Extension Converter for
SeaMonkey](http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/)

Maybe it is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=727723

It would be great to provide a way to reproduce this error. With a
German dictionary it it not constantly happening.

What add-ons do you have?

Works fine here, I would check for a conflicting addon/extension.

Downloaded each update since SM 2.26.1 with same result. Configuration

displayed graphics and attachments in newsgroups correctly.

Using Mac OS X Version 10.9.5

If anyone else has encountered same problem and found a solution, would

I'd like to say this work around works for me with the
alt.binaries.pictures.scenic newsgroup, but it doesn't on my Usenet-News
account. Could it be my news server? All I see is "Downloading articles
1-1 in alt.binaries.pictures.scenic" in the status bar, and no activity
on my DSL router.

It works with images posted in the mozilla.test.multimedia newsgroup.

Has anyone else been experiencing Seamonkey Crashing after updating?

I've had to revert the other computer that I use for business purposes
to an older release of Seamonkey. The other OS is Windows 7 Home
Premium 64 bit.

Here is what I've done to try and fix the crash problem.

On update, I'll do a warm boot of the system. Crash.

Download and instal latest release of Seamonkey. Crash

warm boot. Crash.

Revert to an older version 2.3.1. Crash.

warm boot. Works.

I'm at my wits end with the crashes on the windows 7 machine.

This doesn't happen on my Vista Machine that I'm currently writing
this on.

Any ideas?

TIA

Eric

Is there a Bugzilla bug filed? If so, what status is marked against it?
This has gone on for how long now? I'd almost say that the developers
have no interest in fixing this particular bug. Almost as they may have
other more important bugs to work but this one is approaching major
irritant status and is blocking a lot of folks from upgrading including me.

Might I add " major irritant status" for you, Zeb, and maybe a few others!!

I'm sure the Devs would appreciate any assistance you may be able to
offer, Zeb, whilst they go about their other efforts!!
