How do I get the missing tool bars back?

Two things to look for:

1) In a composition window, pull down the View menu to Show/Hide and see
if the corresponding boxes are checked:
[✓] Menu Bar
[✓] Mail Toolbar
[✓] Status Bar
If they aren't, check the boxes to enable them.

2) If that doesn't solve it, look along the left edge of the screen next
to the "From:" line and you'll see a speckled vertical bar with a
downward pointing triangle. Follow it with your eye to the bottom, just
under "Subject:" and above the message body, and you'll see one or more
horizontal versions of the same thing. Click each of them to reveal the
corresponding toolbar.

I know about the grippies on the left side of the boxes. The only
grippies visible correspond to the areas I mentioned. I've even tried
resizing the screen but that doesn't do anything either.

I'm thinking there might be something in chrome or userprefs.js perhaps
that got screwed up.

So you're saying step 1) above was not helpful either?

It might depend on how they got hidden. If the grippies are showing
horizontally at the left edge, clicking one will turn it back vertical and
show the corresponding menubar.

If the grippies are missing, key in

Alt-V

which will open the view menu, from which the show/hide menu can be used to
toggle them back on.

If the disappearance occurred due to accidentally clicking a grippy, you may
wish to hide the grippies so that accident will no longer be possible. To do
so, in profilename/chrome/userChrome.css (create directory and file if
necessary), place the following, and then restart SM:

toolbargrippy {display: none !important}

To the very left of the screen next to each visible toolbar you will see an
arrow pointing up. If you click on that "up arrow", the tool bar will be hidden
AND a horizontal arrow pointing to the right will take its place. Find any
horizontal arrows and change them to vertical by clicking on them and the
toolbar(s) will now appear.

Running Linux Mint 17.2 Maybe I will just uninstall SeaMonkey, and do a
re-install.. ?

You need to reset any settings that NoScript added to your about:config.
Go into that, do a search for noscript, and right-click and reset any
settings for NoScript that you find there.

the installer, disconnect from the Internet, start the logging, and then
install. Afterwards, I run the final phase of the logger and finally
reconnect to the Internet.

InCtrl5. I got it years ago from the PC Magazine Web site. It was
freeware, but I think it is now purchase-ware.

It was not easy to install and run. I finally had to set its properties
to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

While intended to launch installer executables, I found that I had
instead to run it in its two-phase mode -- run InCtrl5 to collect
"before" status, let it terminate, execute the installer myself, and
then relaunch InCtrl5 to collect "after" status and generate a report.

I used to use InCtrl5 with Windows 98. I found a better application for
Windows XP. It was called Total Uninstall. Not only would it record
everything that happened during an installation, and would make a
human-readable copy if you requested it, but if you uninstalled that
item through it, it would reverse whatever happened during the installation.

Just tried safe mode. Clicking got me the spinner, which is a step in

minutes it reverted to the regular cursor.

Mousing over the video does change the cursor to a hand, as if it were a

There is nothing under [Edit > Preferences] to control HTML5
