I thought bookmarks were taken out of that file in SM 2.0.

AFAIK, everything is kept in places.sqlite including bookmarks. I always
copy that file to use with other SeaMonkey and Firefox installations.

I was wrong and you're right, as Chris points out.
The msf file contains headers and formatting information.
The extension-less file contains the actual bodies for a NG.

Certain newsgroups I like to use off-line and keep around forever.

Disconnect your PC. :)
SeaMonkey keeps a session cache of online messages you've read during
the session, so start SeaMonkey after disconnecting. SeaMonkey should
detect that you're offline, and go into offline mode.

Then view your messages to verify that they are there.

2) is it possible to transfer to a different PC so i do not have to
download all of them again ?

When you've downloaded newsgroup messages for offline reading, a
separate file with no extension will be created to hold offline messages.

For example:
"mozilla.support.seamonkey" and "mozilla.support.seamonkey.msf"

1. Go to Help-->Troubleshooting_Information.
2. Click [Show Folder]. Windows Explorer window will open in your
profile folder.

3. Close SeaMonkey.
4. In your profile folder, go the \News\ folder.
5. Copy the files named after the news server.

After you've set up the account in your destination PC, close SeaMonkey
and replace the newly created files with the ones from your old profile.

But if you're transferring to a different PC, I recommend transferring
the entire profile. For more info, see
.

Many mail servers do this as a way of blocking spam.

That's evidently not the case. My ISP is local and I spoke to them
before making this post. That why I was looking for a detailed log of
what was going out.

I just tried to read mail on that account and was blocked with SeaMonkey

Here's a workaround:

1) Create a second SMTP server with all the same settings but the other
username.

2) Set the second mail account to use the "other" SMTP server.

Detailed instructions:

1) Create a second SMTP server:

a) From a mail window, do Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings...
and scroll to the bottom of the list, where you'll see "Outgoing Server
(SMTP)." Click once to expand it.

b) Choose the existing SMTP server and click "Edit." Note down all the
settings (without changing any), or if you find it more convenient, take
a screenshot and print it out. Click "Cancel" to exit without saving
changes.

c) In the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" dialog, click "Add" and create a new
SMTP server with all the same settings except the username at bottom.
Make sure to give it a different name ("Description" at the top) so you
and SM can tell them apart. Save.

2) Set the second mail account to use the "other" SMTP server.

From a mail window, do Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings..., and
click the name of the second mail account." Near the bottom of the
dialog, click "Outgoing Server (SMTP):". From the pull-down list, choose
the new server you just created, and click "OK" to save.

That should do it. You may be prompted for a new password the first time
SM uses it, but probably not.

I will have to wait until tomorrow to try that.

Thank you.

I believe places.sqlite is forced to be at least 10 MB. This was done
at the same time (around 2011) the ability of users to have the history
of visiting a Web page automatically expire after some user-set number
of days. Now, history expires for the oldest entry only when some
excessive number of history entries are stored.

Before doing a system-wide backup, I run SpeedyFox, which currently
reduces the size to 2.7 MB. That reverts back to 10 MB when I terminate
my browser. I got SpeedyFox at .

Helllo,

anybody here with skills to find the reasons and/or to try to find a fix
for this Bug?

I had forgotten about that. I had that extension way back but not for
awhile now. I just link an extension for Fx that I'd like to use on
SeaMonkey to Addon Converter and try to convert it. The one you list in
the bug (dictionaries) won't convert as there is no install.rdf found in
the installer.

Mine gets up to 30 MB with 30 days of histories. :/

Thank you in advance. :)
