With one exception, no newsreader application -- including SeaMonkey and
Thunderbird -- can change the status of newsgroup messages on a server.

I suspect the OP was talking about marking messages as read, or as junk,
or setting their priority, or some other local function. Nobody else
needs to know how I personally mark the various messages on my machine.

The original subject indicates the user wants to mark messages on a
server.

Well, don't take my word for it. Read his reply.

First you say you do, and then you don't.
And then you say you will, but then won't.
You're undecided now, so what're you goin' to do?

Yes there is, but it's not the way you would expect. What I did was
create a search folder which searches for unread messages in all
folders. (Local, Status isn't read). Then you can select all the
messages in this search folder (using ctrl-a) and mark them as read.

You have to do the tedious method of "Mark Newsgroup Read" one newsgroup
at a time in SeaMonkey.

What causes printer information to be written to about:config? I have 2
printers, and 2 of my 3 PC's show printer info for both PC's in

no entries for the other printer. Both printers do work with this PC
though.
To clarify, I should have said "and 2 of my 3 PC's show printer info for
both printers in about:config."

Versions 4.2 and higher are WebExtensions, i.e. incompatible
with SM.

You could try the last non-webext version: 4.1.67
Either directly or converted by LJ's tool.
