Edit | Preferences | Advanced | HTTP Network Check http 1.1 Check
"Identify as SeaMonkey and advertise Firefox compatibility"
assuming you have SM version 2.53.3 or more recent.

I hope this is the way I reply to you. My first time here.
Meagain...I am using 2.53.3 and I have had my preferences set exactly
that way for a long time. Not a techie but will try to follow all
suggestions. Thanks very much for trying.

Marion, that's peaked my interest Have you used SeaMonkey 2.53.3
previously to do your banking and it worked, except in the past couple
of days it's stopped working??

If that is the case, have you tried phoning your bank to see if they've
changed something their end?? E-mail them, maybe!!

OK, the issue is SM behaves differently if you select the menu as you
suggested (that gives the option to download only email or NGs or
both) VS what I usually do just by clicking the "connection icon" in
the Mail window. In this case there are no options at all and if you
click on "cancel" when asked for the news server credentials SM gets
stuck in a loop!
I consider this a bug, SM should just stop asking for
username/password in that case and go on downloading only Mail.

Anyway, thank you for the workaround :-)

When you mention 'just by clicking the "connection icon" in the Mail
Window' . where is this "connection icon"??

right-bottom of the main window (both Mail and Browser)

Ah!! O.K., maybe it losses something in the translation! So you mean the
'connectoid" that indicates if you are "On-line" (joined) or "Off-line"
(separated).

I would still expect that, if you set your "File" -> "Offline" ->
"Download/Sync" selection to just download your e-mail (i.e. de-select
"Download/sync" Newsgroup messages), SeaMonkey should stop downloading
all the newsgroup messages when you click on the 'connectoid".

Re: Exported SM v2.53.3 address book contacts to VCFs... [1654719]

2020-07-22 Thread Ant
FYI. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1654719 for my bug
report. For now, I will just have to copy my SM's address books into
Thunderbird v78 to export fully and correctly. :(

So, I decided to try the same thing but with Mozilla's 32-bit (why no

detected my copied SeaMonkey v2.53.3's abook.mab file and automatically
converted it to abook.sqlite with its contact entries. I posted more my
results inlined below:

1. Is there a way to export only one and a few contacts from my
addressbook? It seems to do the whole addressbook. :(

Thunderbird doesn't seem to let me do this too. :(

2. Is it me or addressbook's tools export to VCF buggy? I seem to be
missing entries like "Additional Email" since I only get its first
one. Also, work e-mail shows DOM inside VCF: adr;dom:;;number
address;a city;state;12345.

I don't see this problem. It looks like a SeaMonkey's VCF export bug? Or
an older Thunderbird bug? Does anyone know what Thunderbird version
SeaMonkey v2.53.3 is based on?

I'm trying to import my SM's contacts into my old iPhone 6+ (iOS
v12.4.8) since it recognizes VCF files.

Regarding Windows 7 vs Windows 10, I had a problem similar to yours with
the US Postal service's Web site. I have Windows 7 and SeaMonkey
2.49.5. What I described for you is what I use for the Postal Service

That is okay. All this will do is make US Bank's server think you are
using Firefox 75 with Windows 10. It does NOT require you to use either
Firefox 75 itself or Windows 10 itself.

If that is not working, then there is something else in your setup that
the bank's server does not like. I will give you an example from my own
usage.

I normally Web surf with the following preferences:
"Advertise Firefox compatibility" disabled
Cookies for the requested Web site only
Popups blocked
Images from other domains blocked
HTML5 Media and Flash disabled
An extension that befuddles attempts to track me
AdBlock Plus enabled
And there might be others.

However, four financial institutions with which I have frequent
Web-based transactions really do not like that setup. So I created a
separate profile with some of those preferences changed:
Popups enabled
Images from all domains enabled
HTML5 Media and Flash endabled
The extension that befuddles attempts not installed in the profile
AdBlock Plus enabled but only for certain unrelated sites that set
cookies (Yahoo, Amazon, Youtube, others, none of which I
visit while using my financial institutions profile)
For one institution, all cookies are enabled

This is my first time using these groups so hope this is how I respond to you.
Thank you for your suggestions. I have been using both Browsers but since I do
my Banking online, and operate a small biz I with multiple accts I prefer to
use this Browser. If I possibly can. But I noticed I have some suggestions here
that I will try to follow. I am not a techie so I appreciate everyone who is
trying to help me.

 Original Message

I can sign in but my cursor just sits there. I cannot access anything. Cannot
even log out. How can I resolve that? I have to go to Firefox to do my banking.
I have used SeaMonkey since NetScape and have my own domain so I want to
continue my email client in SM.

Edit | Preferences | Advanced | HTTP Network
Check http 1.1
Check "Identify as SeaMonkey and advertise Firefox compatibility"
assuming you have SM version 2.53.3 or more recent.

My first thought is to change banks.

I used to bank with a small community bank. It had a branch close to
where I worked and another one that I passed commuting between work and
home. It was an early adopter of direct deposit for payroll. They
charged me no account fee. When my office moved, I did not change
banks. A year or more would go by without me needing to even call the
bank, let alone visit a branch. If I wanted to deposit a check, the
bank provided pre-paid bank-by-mail envelopes. The envelopes were
addressed to the branch where my account was based. They would then
mail me the deposit receipt along with another bank-by-mail envelope.

US Bank bought up that small bank. Then, they required me to provide my
own envelopes to bank-by-mail. The envelop had to be mailed to US
Bank's main office (about 3-4 days instead of 1 day). If I wanted a
deposit receipt, I had to include my own return, stamped envelope. I
changed to another small community bank.

My second thought, however, involves you keeping your US Bank account.

1. In SeaMonkey, enter about:config in the URI area (address bar),
dismissing any warning popup.

2. Right-click anywhere on the list of preference variables and select
[New > String] from the pull-down context menu.

3. In the "New string value" dialogue, enter
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
and then select the OK button.

4. In the "Enter string value" dialogue, enter
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0
all as a single line (Pardon the line wrap above.) and then select the
OK button.

NOTE: In step #4, you might enter a different user agent (UA) string if
you know of a more recent one for Firefox or one for a Mac instead of
this one, which is for Windows.

If the problem is limited to your bank or just a few sites, why not just
Firefox for those sites?

You can still use SM for your email, and for your general browsing.

I probably have half a dozen sites that don't open properly in SM any more; but
I also have sites that won't open in Firefox, or in Chrome, but open fine in SM
-- so using more than one browser now seems inevitable...

The gurus here may be able to get you onto your bank site with SM, but it seems
the same problem will happen on other sites over time.

OK, the issue is SM behaves differently if you select the menu as you
suggested (that gives the option to download only email or NGs or both) VS
what I usually do just by clicking the "connection icon" in the Mail window.
In this case there are no options at all and if you click on "cancel" when
asked for the news server credentials SM gets stuck in a loop!
I consider this a bug, SM should just stop asking for username/password in
that case and go on downloading only Mail.

Anyway, thank you for the workaround :-)

When you mention 'just by clicking the "connection icon" in the Mail Window'
. where is this "connection icon"??
