Re: SeaMonkey 2.53.6 released! - Help ! All my passwords are lost !

2021-02-01 Thread Dr.J.Elz-Fianda via support-seamonkey

hello experts,
At first I upgraded from 2.53.3 to 2.53.5.1 – all my passwords are lost.
Then I triesd to re-install version 2.53.3 again.
Now I installed Version 2.53.6 but no chance, the passwords are lost.

Is there any chance to get them again ?
Whats abut importing my passwords from FireFox ot from an earlier Version
2.49.* running on my notebook ?
?
thanks for help

how to set max width size for new windows?

2021-02-01 Thread Gabriel
Hi all, is it possible to set the maximum width when opening a new window in
the browser? SM 2.53.6 on macOS.
Because currently a new window opens at the max screen size, and as I'm using
an iMac 5K I'd like to set it to a smaller width.

TIA :-)

Re: SeaMonkey 2.53.6 released! - Help ! All my passwords are lost !

2021-02-01 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
There was nothing special in these versions. Did you have a master password
set? Check your profile if you find cert9.db and key4.db. cert8.db and key3.db
are the old versions and should not be there. There might also be a pkcs11.txt
and secmod.db which are old.

Close SeaMonkey and move them all out of the profile folder.

Copy cert9.db and key4.db from your Firefox profile and you should be good.
If 2.49 profile copy cert8.db and key3.db but they need to have no master
password. Might work or not otherwise. If it works delete the old cert8.db and
key3.db if they are still there after creation of cert9.db and key4.db.

You are writing from 2.49.5. Any chance you have an old version you did
not uninstall?

Some sites mistakenly interpret various forms of tracking protection as
ad blocking. Have a look at your privacy and cookie settings to see if
you have any privacy measures set up that might be triggering these
warnings.

Having said that, you may not be able to find a collection of settings
that provides you with what you feel to be an acceptable level of
privacy protection and yet is compatible with some of these sites. You
may have to set up a couple of browser profiles - one for general
browsing, with privacy settings enabled, and another one with no privacy
settings enabled so that you can browse these sites that have aggressive
anti-adblocking measures in place.

A known issue.

For 2.53.4, if you go to the release notes,
https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.4/ , the
section titled "Extensions (Add-ons) and Themes" explicitly notes:

"Adblock Plus 2.9.1 may cause huge memory and CPU consumption and is not
recommended or officially supported in this SeaMonkey version. Consider
switching to uBlock. "

The following note includes a link of where to find the most current
version of uBlock.

This note is repeated in release notes for all versions of 2.53. For
practical purposes, consider Adblock Plus to be dead.

The underlying issue is with where Mozilla has gone with Extensions,
replacing the XUL API with WebExtensions, as used by Chrome.
WebExtensions was introduced in Firefox 55.0, and XUL was completely
dropped in 57.0. I believe that the core of Seamonkey 2.55 is still
based on 2.56 (and with many security fixes backported from later
releases), but I know from reading the notes of the developers' meetings
that there hasn't yet been any serious work of implementing
WebExtensions in alphas of Seamonkey 2.57. I do have a beta of 2.57
installed, and in that copy, the Mail and News client is not
functioning, nor is there any capacity of running any extensions.
That's not intended as a permanent thing, just a limitation that is the
result of having only a few volunteer developers.

With extensions, development/support of the old XUL versions has pretty
much ended, although there are a handful that still have developer
support, and the release notes have links to some of the more popular
ones. Adblock Plus is in the former group, uBlock Origin is in the latter.

yeah the problem is still there, stemming from incoming unicode emails being

Tracking protection is configurable per site. If it's so configured
(Preferences>Privacy & Security>User Tracking: Prevent tracking
activities..., Warn me when known tracking ... ), you get a pop-up
ribbon at the top of a page that wants to exceed your privacy settings.
If you select Unblock, that applies to the specific site. You can later
change the per-site settings using Tools>Data Manager.

OP's issue doesn't have appear to have anything to do ABP: in fact there
are no extensions ("pgms") installed. Rather, it's likely to be the
Tracking protection as identified by Steve.

Be aware that the start of this thread is nearly 2 years old - some
details might have changed a bit in that time.

The setting you describe only applies for emails which don't indicate
the encoding in the message headers. Most will include that information
these days. See my previous reply on 22nd December 2020 for a possible
workaround and reference to a bug report which may be related to what
you're seeing (if the workaround doesn't work, you may have a different
issue, e.g. if the sender's software might have included the wrong
encoding in the message headers).

My experiences with Firefox in this area have mostly been good, my tests

Help! In V.2.53.6 ebay pictures in emails are nc longer displayed

2021-02-01 Thread Dr.J.Elz-Fianda via support-seamonkey

Hello experts,
yesterday I upgraded from V2.53.5.1 to 2.53.6.
After that i get no display of article pictures from ebay.
From other senders I receive still the pictures to display in-line as I have
chosen.
In the HTML source code for such an image i can find, e.g.:
https://i.ebayimg.com/im=
ages/g/BgMAAOSw4QhgDUDt/s-l300/p.jpg" alt=3D"Praktica MTL5 Camera SLR Penta=
con 35m=E2=80=A6" />
Is this an error otherwise known ?
Is there a hidden option in SeaMonkey to switch this display on or off?

thanks for help

Jochen.
