Re: SeaMonkey 2.39 beta GTK3 issues

Adrian Kalla пишет:

At the end we have some annoying GTK3 issues that somehow do hit just us
and not Fx mentioned in the thread "2.40a1 missing scrollbar indicator
arrow buttons":

They aren't displayed because certain (although most) GTK3 themes
request not to display them.
On Firefox that's expected behavior, but on SM there's also Modern
theme, which should display them even in that case.

Other issues don't hit Fx because they use much less native styling, so
the issues (such as the bugged tabs) just aren't visible as much as they
are on SM.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has encountered any issues with
the GTK3 built version of 2.39.

TB and Firefox backed out the necessary manifests[1] in order
to build with gtk3 and I'm wondering if it's necessary
for us to follow suite.

Edmund

Yes. See "2.40a1 missing scrollbar indicator arrow buttons" thread, all
these issues are also applicable to 2.39.

Basically:
1. Active tab is invisible on some themes.
2. Scrollbar arrows don't display borders, and most GTK3 themes don't
display them at all.
3. GTK theme switching is completely broken, you'll have to restart SM
every time.

Another issue isn't mentioned there: ThreeDShadow and ThreeDHighlight
colors are same, so all themes that heavily use them (basically all
Default-based themes) are broken.

And on a second thought, what's all the fuss about anyway? Who cares what
version an add-on is if it works. If it's not up to date SM checks on startup
and lets you know. Even installs the update if there is one. If you try to
load one that doesn't work with SM modify it. If you don't know how use the
webpage that will convert it for you. These two options have been explained
many times in previous topics.

Not necessarily. There are addons with binary components, and they are
very dependent on the exact specific version and platform.

For example, one my addon depends on Lightning, which has a binary
component. One of the first questions (sometimes the first one) I ask if
anyone has a problem with it, is "What version of Lightning do you have?".

Works fine for me. Perhaps that's a theme issue.

There is a theme issue with some of Alfred Kayser's themes. I ran into
one with the Walnut2 theme for SeaMonkey. I was unable to set the
toolbar buttons in the message windows to have horizontal orientation
(icons with text beside them) while I had vertical orientation (text
under the icons) set in the main toolbar for messaging. I fixed it by
removing a chunk of code from the global.css file and substituting
another, older chunk of code. Why he keeps experimenting with
orientation in toolbar buttons I have no idea, but he keeps messing them
up.

Probably the themes have some "cruft" from older SM versions. In this
case "rebasing" the theme on the newer default theme should work. But as
far as I know, his themes have considerable differences from default
theme structure, so he's unable to do that.

Umm, it looks like a weird MozSuite/Firefox hybrid. See the home button,
lack of grippies, lack of Window menu, History instead of Go, favorite
and go icons in the address bar etc.

It's probably just an old version of Mozilla. Look at these screenshots
of pre-1.0 Mozilla: none has a "Window" menu, which would appear only on
version 1.0 (click on "forward" at the bottom of the screen). The pic is
really small, so I'm not really sure about the grippies -- they might be
there but just hard to see. And I think it was possible to disable them,
too.
As for the theme, it's consistent with the facelift "Modern" one
introduced in 0.9.1. The "Home" button in the main toolbar is optional,
then as it is now.

http://www.andrewturnbull.net/mozilla/history2.html

My guess is that it's a slightly customized version of Mozilla 0.9.1-0.9.9.

I'm retracting my prior assessment. The little icons in the address bar
are really inconsistent with Mozilla, particularly pre-1.0 versions.
Probably it would be just too much trouble for the production team to
find age-accurate versions of Mozilla, so they resorted to one of the
various "old-style" themes for Firefox and tweaked about:config so it
would present a different name on the window title bar. I mean, I
haven't seen the movie, but this would probablybe visible just for a few
seconds, so pixel perfection is not really necessary, only the general
look of it. Hollywood has been guilty of much worse, like Roman
legionnaires wearing wristwatches...

Sorry, answered before I have seen this.

/usr/local/seamonkey is in your path. Most modern UNIX/Linux releases do
not out-of-the-box enable forgoing the leading './' on program execution
as a means of ensuring that you're executing the program you're
expecting to execute.

Thanks for the response. There are some issues that lead me to suspect
my installation hasn't completed properly though:

1. The only way I can open SM is by terminal command ./seamonkey from
 /usr/local/seamonkey.

2. My Terminal remains held all the time I'm using SM and only clears
 when I close SM

3. A SM icon automatically appears in my Unity taskbar on the left
of my screen while SM is running, but it disappears again when
I close SM, so there's no obvious way I can reopen SM again
unless I go to /usr/local/seamonkey in Terminal again and type
./seamonkey.I don't know how to make that SM icon stay in
position in Unity and serve as a path link to re-open SM when needed
(Unity is relatively new to me)

4. Although I have Adobe Flash Player installed and it's working
fine on Firefox, I'm getting a prompt to install it whenever I try
to view pages with video content on SM.

5. In my list of installed applications, SM does not appear.

Hence I'm left with the impression that all those GTK-WARNING ** Failed
to load type module: (null) lines that appear in Terminal each time I
try to load SM indicate that something is going wrong, Terminal is
getting stuck, and my load is not completing properly.

Any suggestions? + John

Go to ~/.local/share/applications directory (create it if it's absent),
create seamonkey.desktop file (look other files there, or in
/usr/share/applications), so that its command is "/usr/local/seamonkey"
its name is "SeaMonkey" or "SeaMonkey Internet Suite" or whatever etc.

Also you add this:
StartupWMClass=Seamonkey
So that it gets correctly matched with SM windows in Unity.

As for the messages, it says that it's something wrong with Ubuntu
Appmenu GTK2 module. Since SM doesn't support Appmenu anyway (Firefox
and Thunderbird in Ubuntu are patched to add the support), it wouldn't
affect it in any ways.

Another option is to use a PPA. I have one:
https://launchpad.net/~exalm/+archive/seamonkey
Because of some errors with Python, the package is built for Quantal. It
should work on Precise as well.

And it has the mentioned above appmenu patch, so the appmenu should work.

Exalm.

Re: What theme do you use?

2013-12-01 Thread Exalm

NoOp пишет:

I like that theme. Unfortunately I ran into this issue:

I've noticed since SM 2.20 that a small white box was appearing in the
top-left of my screen and staying there, on top of everything else. I
didn't think it was anything to do with SeaMonkey until one day I tried
to track it down and after closing all programs, I checked the Task
Manager and noticed that SM was still running. When I killed it, the
white box disappeared.

I've tracked it down to the new mail notification box. I no longer get
the little box in the bottom-right of the screen nor do I get a tray
notification icon.

At first I thought it was libnotify/libindicatior/etc or some other
system issue, but after removing the theme and restarting with the
default SeaMonkey theme, everything is back to normal.

Thanks, fixed for GNOMErunner/GTK Revived 0.3. :)

Never mind, I see it is available this morning.

Finally!

I notice also that Joe Lesko has 2.14 available in the PPA at Launchpad.

I've been loving the PPA autoupdates ever since i found this
2.14.1 works quite nicely, save the excrutiatingly time consuming
bookmark/edit/sync issues...

Anybody know what's up with Joe Lesko and his PPAs of Seamonkey? he
hasn't had a successful compile in quite some time...

A missing symlink in some python package.
I just build it for Quantal, and it almost perfectly works on Raring.

Force mobile pages in sidebar

2013-08-15 Thread Exalm
Hello. Is it possible to force mobile versions of pages in the sidebar?
Some sites provide mobile versions with different URLs (Wikipedia, for
example), but most of them just show mobile versions for some useragents.
Additionally, even if mobile URL is used, if I will open any link from
sidebar in a tab, it will still be mobile.

So, is there any way to use different useragent in sidebar and elsewhere?
