Yesterday, I downloaded the FREE version of Malwarebytes 3.7.1.2879 from
the Malwarebytes home Web page. I then installed it.

To get the installer, I went to . On the
left side of the Web page under Home (I had to set Images to "Load all
images"), I put my cursor over the Explore button without selecting it.
That gave me the options Free and Premium. I selected the Free Download
button under Free.

Note: The installer shows a very long version number. It is actually
three version numbers separated with hyphens. The first part is the
software version. The second part is the components version. The third
part is the update package version. I do not understand the distinction
between these three.

Well, at least from what I gather when downloading the latest software
even though I've been using this program forever, no matter if you
choose the Home/Premium Trial or Premium Trial links, considering either
or is your only option to download any version without having to make an
upfront payment, both links will give you access to the identical
program. Long story short, both the Free/Premium Trial or Premium Trial
versions are identical and, like Cinderella at midnight (after 14 days),
both will revert to malware scanning only after the trial expires,
unless you choose to spend the bucks for keeping Premium features active.

Visually:
Free/Premium Trial version #: .3.7.1.2839-1.0.538-1.0.9186.exe
Premium Trial version #: .3.7.1.2839-1.0.538-1.0.9186.exe

MB became confusing some time back when they went from a simple scan
on demand to including every other anti-virus thing in a suite.
Download and install the free version but don't check the box for
"start 14 day trial", or what ever it says... I forgot exactly.
Also, in Setup / Application, be sure to turn off EVERYTHING,
otherwise it will continually report back to their home planet.

I cannot find the "Free Version" on Google.
Whatever Google comes up with turns out to be the 14 Day trial thing !
That is why I am asking if that is gone ?

Even the Google links that are OLDER still come up with the 14 day thing.
If I am missing something, please tell me !

https://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_3/

Filehippo says it's free. There's no guarantee, but in this case I think
it is free because I use one of the 3.6.1. versions on the right and
it's free.

As I recall when I installed my version they "turned everything on". The
solution: turn everything off, and you'll have the free installation.
After the trial period is over, you won't notice the difference because
you already will have done what they were about to do.

I'm using 3.6.1, which is free

I just read a "Review" of MalWareBytes that explained the 14 Day Trial
Period.

After the 14 Days - it reverts to the "FREE" version.

I thought that it would seize up after 14 days like most Trial Software !

I downloaded the "Free" Version and am using it now. Sorry for my
confusion !

DoctorBill
You can also look at their price list
(https://www.malwarebytes.com/pricing/) and it still shows the 'free'
version. And if you try downloading via both links, it downloads the
same version, so it confirms it's just a ploy to get more paid
subscribers. Plus, as you can see, seeing for yourself the confusion,
many people will end up paying the Premium to keep the software active. ;)

It looks like you get 14 days of Malwarebytes Premium for free; if you
don't buy it then all the premium features are disabled and you're
left with the free version that just disinfects:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/trial/
- For 14 days, Malwarebytes for Window will keep malware from
infecting your computer for free. After that, it reverts to a limited
scanner.
- TRIAL PERIOD
Prevent malware from infecting your computer for 14 days with
real-time protection, anti-ransomware technology, and malicious
website blocking.
- DO NOTHING
Malwarebytes for Windows reverts to a manual scanner that detects and
cleans up malware infections only when you run a scan. You can upgrade
to the premium version any time.

Did earlier versions of malwarebytes free offer any kind of protection
or was it strictly an after-the-fact find & remove malware product?

Lee

Previously, if I remember correctly, there were 2 versions: FREE and
PREMIUM.

Now, however, it looks like they turned on the Premium with the FREE
version hoping to lure a few more fish to their bottom-line.

Re: Message Filter Problem - Annoying Error Message

I am running Firefox 2.48.4 on Windows 7. I have a message filter set up
so that every time I receive a message from a specific email address the
message gets forwarded to two people in my office and moved to a Local

filter appears to work but every time it gets called I get a popup error
message saying "Sending Message Failed. Connection to outgoing server
smtp.xxx.net lost ...". The users both get the forwarded email.

Anyone seen this and does anyone have a solution. It's not the end of
the world but it is annoying.

This email has been checked for viruses by AVG.

Q: If you completely removed the filter, along with email forwarding
within the filter, do you still receive an error message when sending
emails? That will at least eliminate your filter as being the cause of
the problem. Gut instinct tells me, although I could be wrong, one may
not have anything to do with the other.

Is this normal ?

By any chance, is it a background image? If so:

1. On the menu bar, go to [File > Page Setup].

2. On the Format & Options tab of the Page Setup Window, make sure the
Print Background checkbox is checked.

I kept forgetting to look it up, as to the reason images were not
printing for me, and now it works again. Awesome! You saved me time.
Thank you! :)

Fine. Try it, and if you like it better, stick with it. If not,
revert. That's how I'd decide.

Really?! You wouldn't even try to look at any performance data?

Whatever works for you, but I've seen too many instances where
people see what they want/expect to see instead of what's really
there, so I like looking at the numbers instead of going by feel.

I would happily look at performance data for comparable systems under
comparable conditions. Got any of that? My point was that systems are so
varied and conditions are so varied that it's impossible to make a fair
comparison. All we have is empirical results for our own systems. And
ultimately that's the bottom line -- is this user happier or not?

Paul-1, Lee-0. I'll have to agree with Paul on this one. For example,
Lee, if you took two identically built computers (same models, specs,
etc) - like Paul was describing - even taking it to the point where both
systems were connected to the same router, in the same house, one could
have loads of software on it, rarely maintained, while the other could
have limited use and constantly maintained, and then did performance
tests on those two computers, well, most likely, your results could vary
so greatly that you'd start to question whether those two computers were
identical models or not. Like Paul suggests, you truly need
apples-to-apples type testing here, not just looking at one computer's
performance test and then draw a conclusion by saying, 'All systems
should make this change to it.' I sorta wish it was that simple. It's
not. But, as for myself, I kinda enjoy the challenge. :)

Good to hear.

Paul is correct. My error. I had mine listed under 'File Path' within

correct about getting that link from the about:config settings. I was in

If you go to Seamonkey's browser settings, that is the path used to
check for updates. And since I added that path to the Exclusions in
Avast, I never received the warning messages again. If I recall, it all
started when I updated Avast to the next available update. So, I'm
