Turn off redirected page blocks/notification

2012-12-04 Thread MR
I have recently returned to using Seamonkey for my emails at work
(Firefox looks broken at the moment and Chrome has other issues).

The problem is that every time I follow a link, I get that tool-bar
style notice that Seamonkey would not follow th link and wants me to
allow it explicitly.

I'd like to be able to turn that feature off, but I searched through
all the preferences and couldn' find it.

How do I allow SM to follow redirected links without notifying me
every single time?

Thanks.

That's where i got the host name from. The ping problem is consistent:

$ ping keyserver.ubuntu.com
PING keyserver.ubuntu.com (91.189.90.55) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- keyserver.ubuntu.com ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 3024ms

So, can't ping it, can't connect to it (it takes a long time and gets
an error if I try the key fetch command from the sourceforge page).

LastPass Extension "Removed"

2012-11-30 Thread Mr. Cheese
I just upgraded to 2.14 and was told that one of my extensions was
incompatible (LastPass). I thought this extension would be disabled
during the installation It looks like it was removed. I'm concerned
that all my stored information is lost and when the extension is made
compatible I'll have to start over.

Anyone know if this data is lost.

I contacted LastPass to find out if a correction would be forthcoming.
They sent me to a link to reload (is that the right term) the extension.
Everything seems to be working. Sorry, I do not know if they gave me a

All my data was reinstated.

Your problem is that a growing number of Web sites use JavaScript to
handle logins, which is not supported by Password Manager. See bug
#355063 at <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355063>.
...

No, that wasn't his complaint.

I'm assuming since he didn't say either way that he's talking about
downloading POP mail, not viewing it on a webmail site. In that case,
SeaMonkey should ask for the password and ask whether it should remember
it. And that's been my experience in the past.

Now back to the original subject. We do get that popup (for an IMAP
account) and it does have the "remember" checkbox, but by default it
is not checked. I want to change that (within a company) to show the
checkbox checked when this popup appears.

Anyone know how such a popup is constructed, how to find the piece
of code where that happens, and if it is possible to change such a
default?

Maybe those popups are not even constructed in code but are defined
in some xml or other resource file, which can be modified. I don't
know. But best would be to change it using a pref, as I can modify
those in my locked pref file that is automatically distributed to all
users.

Why does SM have a "remember"checkbox for IMAP and not for POP accounts?
SM used to remember my POP PW. that changed a few updates ago.

It should work for POP. There are some ways to break it, I remember.

I'm on SM 2.14.1, too, and SM does remember my mail passwords.

In the Password Manager, look for the domain under which you receive
mail, and you should see something like this:

DomainWebsiteUsernamePassword
nowhere.netmailbox://mail.nowhere.net
(mailbox://mail.nowhere.net)nullwhatever1
 smtp://smtp.nowhere.net (smtp://smtp.nowhere.net)
nullwhatever2

where "whatever1" and "whatever2" are your passwords. Of course, you'll
have to click the "Show Passwords" at the lower right to see the last
column.

Here's what I see:

the PW is correct. I see no "mailbox" entry

So you're using a webmail site, not downloading POP mail? You go to
<https://signin.optonline.net> and login, and then you're asked for a
password again later on? In that case, you probably should enable
cookies for that site.

I appreciate everyone's help. I must be missing something or I don't
understand terminology. I think mail is being downloaded because I see
it in my profile. I usually delete all cookies on exit so I stopped that
to see if my PW was "remembered". It wasn't.
BTW, when I'm not on my home PC I'll access via webmail. does that reset
things? Is there a way to delete cookies on exit except designated domains?

Actually for a mail with embedded images it is the setting of
"View -> Display attachments inline" that controls this. There should
be a checkmark in front of that menu entry. If not, click it.

You probably clicked there by accident and changed the setting.

According to the release notes (which you should see the first time you
launch the browser after an upgrade), there are new notification options
at Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Notifications.

So adjust the settings to what you like.

I don't see a "notifications" line in SM 2.20

I do, between "Message Display" and "Composition." Have you expanded the
"Mail & Newsgroups" group (click the triangle to the left of the name)
so you can see all the subgroups?

Got it! THX. I was looking in edit>mail & newsgroup Account Settings

Weird Happenings

2013-08-16 Thread Mr. Ed
After installing PrefBar 6.2.1 Build 20130722 with SeaMonkey 2.20 a
couple of weird things are happening.

When checking boxes in PrefBar for Java and Flash to "OFF" (no check in
box)and then going to another window or url or tab these two boxes are
automatically turned back "ON".

Anyone else see this?

More than one screen - have to print, cut, and paste.
Rather be able to print the entire thing, on multiple pages if needed.

Well, Password Exporter 1.2.1 still works. Play with .xml in spread
sheet and then print. No cutting and pasting. Not as easy as the html
file that was used previously. Open it and there everything was. Print
and done.

And on a second thought, what's all the fuss about anyway? Who cares what
version an add-on is if it works. If it's not up to date SM checks on startup
and lets you know. Even installs the update if there is one. If you try to
load one that doesn't work with SM modify it. If you don't know how use the
webpage that will convert it for you. These two options have been explained
many times in previous topics.

Well, of all the add-ons I've installed there is only one that I would really
like to see added to SM and that is the 'Reply to ALL as CC".

The others are probably used by a small percentage of SM users and as such do
not need to be included in the software package. I go with KISS and if I need
something once in a while, I'll either work around, find an addon or extension,
or maybe even do some coding for myself.

Cache in SM 2.38b

>From comments about cache on SM 2.35, I assume the cache2 directory should not

I still see it here on 2.38b Build identifier: 20150904215228. The cache2
directory has two sub directories doomed and entries both of which are empty.

Removal of cache2 directory (and sub-directories)is easy, but they are
reconstructed on a new startup of SeaMonkey.

Should a bug report be filed?

More than a year ago, I looked at Lastpass and other third-party
password manager applications. That was before Mozilla's Password
Manager was fixed to save and use passwords at sites that try to block
the use of password managers. I discovered that Lastpass saves your
passwords on their server. Given the number of computer systems that
are successfully hecked, I decided not to use it. Now, Mozilla's
Password Manager works quite the way I want; and (better) my passwords
exist only locally on my own computer.

In your case, it is possible that Lastpass's server is down.

I know the Server wasn't down because it was working for other sites.
I wish to share my PW's with my other devices ( IPad & IPod Touch)
Do you know how SM bypasses restrictions that sites put on password
managers. I'd like to pass that on to Lastpass folks.

Agreed. I have never used chatzilla, dom inspector, of composer. Perhaps there

That also happens in SM 2.47 (64 bit). Build identifier: 20161201025712

usually just
use what's in front of "@verizon.net", In my case "Mr. Ed"

While it's true that some (many?) bugs will have an effect on more than one OS

I have had this problem occasionally with Firefox, SeaMonkey, and even
just the npviewer, since way back when I was using CentOS 5 (now on
Xubuntu 12.04/3.8 kernel).

I just wrote a simple shell script that clobbers whichever one is
giving me trouble:

#!/bin/bash

# A shell script to kill that annoying runaway
seamonkey/firefox/npviewer that won't die

case `basename $0` in
"seakill") cmd=seamonkey;;
"foxkill") cmd=firefox;;
"npvkill") cmd=npviewer;;
*) echo "Unrecognized command."; exit 1;;
esac

/usr/bin/pkill -9 $cmd
/bin/ps -fC $cmd

Hope that helps.

Collateral damage. After I found the problem with SeaMonkey, it began
to occur occasioinally in Firefox, then later with npviewer, which is
part of the Adobe flash player systems that used to cause hangs,
similar to these (GIYF). I haven't needed npvkill in about two years,
but why remove it if it may ever cause problems again?

Cheers.

In the few instances where I am still forced to use Windows, I tend to
rely on MSE - it's free, it seems to work fairly well and it doesn't
do any ads or other annoying pop-ups. I haven't had a virus or any
other malware infestation for years.

Yes, I know it's also an MS product, but for what I see, it works
better than most of them.

I also never use Windows for myself unless it's in a VM on my Linux
boxes, or my company laptop, which has the corporoate McAfee on it.
I'd add MSE if I knew for sure it wouldn't interfere, but it's not my
laptop

I don't trust the OS enough to use it unless I have to, but I do trust
their greed in keeping unhappy users from defecting, so the software
they write to protect the software they write tends to be somewhat
more trustworthy in that regard.

Besides, the trust I have in MSE is based on its track record - it
does pretty well and their response time tends to be faster than
McAfee or Symantec.

The History page retains its view state across sessions, so whatever you

In Windows - make Foxit Reader (you should really upgrade it to 7.0.3)
the default program for .pdf files

In SeaMonkey Edit/Preferences/Helper Applications find all references
to Foxit PDF Document, except the FDF one, and make the action "Use
Foxit Reader 7.0."

When you click on a pdf file it will be downloaded and opened with out

This started a version or two ago with SeaMonkey. I don't think anyone
is working on the problem

Looks like bluegriffon hasn't been changed in two years.
Hard to believe that it was perfected that long ago.

How big is the complete backup (file) if I do that ?

But the last version of that was in

Can anyone verify that it still works properly with SM/FF?

I still rely on the hosts file.  It

I just backed up my Bookmarks to a Thumb Drive - there is a backup

 I have four "Address Books".
How can I back those up to a Thumbdrive ?
 Do I use "Export" ?
If so, do I Export each of the four Address Books ?

How about backing up the Passwords ?

I've been running without Java on my machine for over two years. Have only had
problems with one site that I decided not to use anymore.
I recommend that you only use Java if you absolutely need it. (Java script is
OK)
