Re: No passwords or email

2014-11-10 Thread Rob C.
If you're using an add-on to "Remember Passwords" (I forget
the exact name), I was told it breaks Password Management in
SeaMonkey 2.30 update . If you disable it things will
magically return to be more normal. Saved
Usernames/Passwords will be entered automatically or added.
For Banking, Credit cards.etc.. in my case, you have to
type the first letter of the log-in before auto-fill will
complete the rest on sites that don't allow it.

I installed 2.2 on the new C, closed it, copied all personal settings data
(the whole subfolder tree -- about 165 files) from E:\Documents and

under the new same D& S tree on the new C:\.
I erased the new C:\ settings tree and renamed the top folder of the
copied tree portion to

Restarted Seamonkey and the email was correctly populated with the old
accounts, emails, settings, etc.

However, the browser failed to populate all of the old settings (it did
populate maybe 1 percent or less).

What did I do wrongplease?
How do I repop all of the browser settings?

Re: SM 1119, How to change wmv default app?

2011-01-22 Thread Rob C.

Paul,

What I haven't seen suggested and what may help make the
change you want, is this. Open Control Panel, then Folder
Options. Click on the File Types tab and scroll down to the
.wmv extension. Once you select it you can use the Change
button to choose the program that opens .wmv files. You may
need to use the Browse button to find the executable file
for the media player you choose to use. This is a global
change, not just a change in SeaMonkey. You can also change
other extensions in this manner if you wish. HTH. (Would
have posted earlier but server's been down)

Re: Road Runner Speed Test

I can't answer your question directly but try some of the
speed tests at this website:

You can also run Flash or Java based tests. It may answer
your question if you are able to get things working there. HTH

When I go to

indeed able to test my download and upload speeds.

However, while the results are displayed, I have a serious problem with
SeaMonkey's Cookie Manager. If I go to [Tools > Cookie Manager > Manage
Stored Cookies] and view my accumulated cookies and select a cookie, it
stays selected for only 1-2 seconds. If I scroll to the bottom of the
list of cookies, the list snaps back to the top. This problem goes away
if I disable and then re-enable JavaScript.

In one case, I cleared the Error Console just before running a speed
test. After running the speed test, the Error Console reported the
three following errors (plus more than 50 warnings):

Netgear cable/DSL Internet router

Gecko/20101027 SeaMonkey/2.0.10

Cookies for the originating Web site only

Flash 10.1.102.64 (10.1 r102) (usually blocked with FlashBlock but
unblocked for the speed test, which uses Flash)

* ShowIP 0.8.19 (http://code.google.com/p/firefox-showip/)

Note that Road Runner's speed test uses the same Ookla engine that the
FCC's <http://www.broadband.gov/> uses. When I use the FCC site, I
don't have any problems with Cookie Manager.

Road Runner (of course) insists that my setup is causing the problem.
Contrary to Road Runner's replies to my messages, I DO INDEED GET A
SPEED TEST FROM THEIR
<http://www.timewarnercable.com/socal/lear/hso/speedtest.html>. For
some reason, they keep indicating that I cannot do a speed test at their
site when I keep telling them that the speed test runs to completion and
gives reasonable results. (This is quite common for technical support
services that operate entirely from prepared scripts.)

My question is whether anyone can determine accurately where the problem
lies: in Road Runner's Web page or in SeaMonkey.

I'm seeing a great amoung of blather in this thread that is quite
contrary to my experience.

First of all, when I go to, the
installation file downloads to whatever folder I specify. It does not
install until I execute that file.

Not the way it works on Windows XP home edition. I was able to locate
the install file and install it that way.

I actually did download Flash 10.1 (actually 10.1.82.76) from that URI
using SeaMonkey 2.0.6 exactly a week ago. I then installed it for
SeaMonkey without any problems. Finally, I archived the installation
file, which I do for ALL software and updates that I download and
install.

Note that the installation itself does not involve SeaMonkey. It only
involves executing the installation file. I generally terminate all
other applications while installing new or updated software. I
definitely would not use SeaMonkey's Add-ons Manager since Flash is not
an add-on.

Today, I again downloaded the installation file from the same URI. This
time, I generated both MD5 and SHA1 comparisons between the newly
downloaded file and last week's archived file. The two files are
identical. This means you too should be able to download the file via
SeaMonkey and install it.

Yes, Flash MIGHT set its own cookies. However, you can go to

and set Flash not to set cookies.

I didn't see a place to set Flash to not set cookies. Saw a place to
delete them.

Think you have to set the slider to allow 0 storage place.

You can still download and install manually here:

For the Plug-in:
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

For Active X:
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

This comes from the following Adobe page for Troubleshooting

Martin,
This is the same behavior I posted about last week. I've
tried all the suggestions people have offered, to no avail.
I tried deleting the problematic bookmark and found the
problem just jumped to another "https:" bookmark. The Icon
is the the problem not the bookmark itself. If I uncheck
"Show Website Icons" on the Appearance page of Preferences
and reboot, the problem is completely gone. The problem will
reappear if putting the check back. I don't really
understand why a reboot is needed instead of just restarting
SM. (Not using Quick Launch) I can't help but wonder if some
of us may have run across something a little viral out there
in internet land causing this, or possibly a buggy helper
application. I reverted back to 1.1.16 which never displayed
this, but it does now! I'm not using any extensions/add-ons
with SM 1.1.17

SSL Certificate Errors

2009-08-22 Thread Rob C.
I've been getting a Security Error box
popping up lately when I visit various
websites. It says the certificate
doesn't match the domain. I get that
part but the certificate presented seems
to always match a domain that I do
frequent, i.e it shows a certificate for
"ups.com" when I visit "mot.com". It's
like somethings gotten out of sequence.
 I've tried making a new profile, a r/r

using SM 1.1.17 with no extensions and
WinXP. Any help appreciated.

Open the History (Shortcut Ctrl+H for me, othewise Go => History), type

Removing the entry from the history does not remove it from the location
bar. In SM 1.x.x, the entries could be removed in localstore.rdf. Not so
in SM 2.0b1.

In SM2 it works that way!
At least for me, I am unsure what else might affect this, but when I
delete a site there, it is no longer being suggested in thr urlbar while
typing afterwards.

The data for the location bar is now stored in a new file. It's a "SQLite 3"
database file and while it can be read with, it cannot be modified by
a text editor. The file is named "urlbarhistory.sqlite" and is in a different
location from localstore.rdf. 2 options I can figure are 1) delete the file
and it will automatically start a new one(same as hitting the clear
location bar in Prefs) or 2) keep the one you want to disappear at the
bottom of the list until 30 others kick it off! Or find/learn to use a
SQite 3 editor. (not for me)
