Maybe because when composing, you use monospace font, which lines up
nicely, but the message when loaded is using proportional font?

Thanks to the several posters who kindly replied to my query.

If you want to do something like that, it is best to use a word
processor to make a document, and send that document as an attachment.
Depending on the situation, sending it as a pdf may even be better.

In HTML composition you're normally using variable pitch fonts, which you cannot
expect to maintain columnar formatting without using tables or other complexity.
Plain text composition should keep your columns the way you want them.

Mort, I'm guessing "Require all your acquaintances to use the same
set-up as you!"

If people use different Font types (Times, Times-New Roman, Ariel, Fixed
Width, Variable Width, etc., etc.), then they may not see things as you
have laid them out in whatever set-up you use.
