When you open your SM 2 Mail profile, does it show the same mail as your SM 1.x profile contained when you installed SM 2.x?? i.e. when you first installed SM 2.x, when you set up the mail portion, SM 2.x is supposed to make a copy (not import, but make a copy) of your SM 1.x profile, so the two default mail profiles should have been exactly the same at one time. If you have SM 1.1.X open, and you attempt to launch the SM 2.X profile manager, you're going to get the SM 1.1.X profile manager. I understand--I think. Here is the way I am looking at this 1.1.18 and 2.0.3 situation. I can have only one version open at a time. I can have the browser and mail page open simultaneously for only one version of SeaMonkey at a time. I have to have SeaMonkey turned off (both versions) in order to see the Start menuAll ProgramsSeaMonkeyProfile Manager. Have I got that right? The SM 2.X profile will exist completely separate from the SM 1.1.X profile. This is where I get a little fuzzy with my thinking. I do hear what you are telling me--my problem likely has to do with my limited technical knowhow. I do understand that my 1.1.18 profile continues to exist someplace--just not presently accessible from the Start Menu. I have been using 1.1.18, subsequent to installing 2.0.3, for accessing the web and my mail. Version 1.1.18 appears to be working normally. That tells me that my profile is alive and well someplace--just not showing on the Start menu. I know that the ICONs for 2.0.3 on the Desktop are working and they take me to the 2.0.3 browser or the mail page, as appropriate. The SeaMonkey entry that exists in the Start menu belongs to 2.0.3. The Start menuAll ProgramsSeamonkey entry belongs to 2.0.3. The Profile Manager for the listed StartSeaMonkeyProfile Manager (default) is also tied to 2.0.3. Note that I have only one profile for 1.1.18, and now it appears that I have one profile (default) on 2.0.3. Does any of what I have written here make sense? If not, I will try again. I did something that I hope I will not regret. I believe I can easily undo what I did; so, let me tell you about my actions. I copied, from a recent backup of my system (made before SeaMonkey 2.0.3 was added), the Start Menu entry for SeaMonkey 1.1.18 to the Desktop. Information was taken from F:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. The F Drive is a USB connected hard drive used only for making backups of my system. I renamed the file on the Desktop from SeaMonkey to SeaMonkey1. Next, using Windows Explorer, I moved the SeaMonkey1 file to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. This allowed me to have access to my SeaMonkey 1.1.18 profile, etc. It seems that everything continues to work properly--the Desktop ICONs and the Start Menu items. You don't have to. If you want to create them, they are no different than the shortcuts you created on the desktop. In fact, you can just drag the icon from the desktop using your right-clickdrag and drag it to your start menu (navigating into the specific menu area) and release, then select Copy Here (or whatever). How do I look at the 1.1.18 Profile Manager? This entry no longer exists in my Start menu. Create one (as shown before). The command-line option is -ProfileManager. However, you can just launch the browser and go to Tools - Switch Profile - much easier. Similarly, when you're running the SM 2.X profile manager, you're looking at the SM 2.X profiles only. I am of the belief that the Profile Manager entry I am looking at (default) is the one for 2.0.3. Is that correct? I do not have any SeaMonkey items open, when I visit the Start menu Profile Manager. I don't know what you have on your start menu. If the last SM installed was 2.X, and it installed the start menu items into the same place that SM 1.1.X did (which I *think* is the default), then it would point to SM 2.X. Perhaps the easiest way would be to launch SM 2.X, and go to Tools - Switch Profile (if this exists on SM 2.X - I don't know for sure as I'm not running that version yet). All except for the last point. Think of the Profile Manager as just another SM application component (like Browser or Mail Newsgroup). If you're running SM 1.1.X, then no matter what you run, you're going to see the Profile Manager for SM 1.1.X. This is where I get a little fuzzy with my thinking. I do hear what you are telling me--my problem likely has to do with my limited technical knowhow. I do understand that my 1.1.18 profile continues to exist someplace--just not presently accessible from the Start Menu. The start menu includes shortcuts to applications, not profile data. If you're start menu includes shortcuts for SM 2.X, and you want one for SM 1.1.X, just add it, as described before. So it doesn't become confusing, you may want to rename your existing shortcuts so it's clear they belong to SM 2.X. I have been using 1.1.18, subsequent to installing 2.0.3, for accessing the web and my mail. Version 1.1.18 appears to be working normally. That tells me that my profile is alive and well someplace--just not showing on the Start menu. Again, the profile does not show on the start menu. That all seems correct. Note that I have only one profile for 1.1.18, and now it appears that I have one profile (default) on 2.0.3. That also is as expected (unless you took steps in either application to create additional profiles). Does any of what I have written here make sense? If not, I will try again. I believe I've understood everything you've said :) If you think I've missed something, please let me know. I really appreciate your patience and help. I would be totally lost without help from individuals like yourself. No problem. Best Regards, Okay, I see that you've posted a follow-up, so now I'm going to go and read that :) ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Do you foresee any problems with what I have done? No problem, but I think you went way overboard in creating these shortcuts. You could have created them manually in far less time. However, if they're working for you, then I don't see any other problem with them.
