Will it still import my old data files (bookmarks.html, *.mab addressbooks, histories, settings, etc.)? Put all profiles far away from all other parts of all Mozilla products. You can put them anywhere that Win has access to. They are data, not apps. To get 2.3 to use the data from your 2.0 profile, copy the 2.0 profile tree and name it something you will recognize as 2.3 eg X:\Profiles\MySM23Profile. The first time you run 2.3 tell it to use the profile you just created and it will use it and update it to 2.3 level. To always have your choice of profiles, have the app shortcut call something like X:\SM23\Seamonkey.exe -Profilemanager. The first time you run, create a profile where you made the copy of the 2.0 profile. That profile will then appear on a profile menu. Mozilla products change often. New test versions are posted several times a day. If you are waiting for it to stabilize you will have a long wait. And there will be bugs. Run as many versions as you want in parallel and use the one your prefer. Thank you in advance. :) You can have separation installation folders for SeaMonkey and it works just fine. I cannot say the same will be true for any extensions/themes you have in v2.0.14, though. For Macintosh User out there interested in doing this. You can't use Sailfish method. when you want to try out a different version and keep your old version you can either archive the old version then download and install. Or you can download the .dmg file (diskimage), open and Drag contents to the desktop. which decompress the the file. Next click on the Name so that the name box become active. click at end of name but before the ..app extension and type 2.3.1 or what every the version is. now click some where else on desk to to get out of editing mode. Now open your current version not the new one. Go to tools switch profile. and create a new profile. Quit. now open new version and it will ask for which profile to use. Choose that profile and your read to use. Quit new one Drag a copy (option while dragging) all the bookmarks items from original profile to new profile. to get to profiles Go to ~/library/Application Support/SeaMonkey/ Profile the original will have a random set of code numbers/characters (this is called salting). The new will have this as well but should also have the name you gave it. Copy Bookmarks from original to the profile. If you want to make it easy to get your profiles Drag each Profile folder to the Sidebar this put an alias of each on the sidebar. and you can just click on that to enter into the profile. X.7 you have to got to main menu from find and hold option key down which clicking on go menu to get to User Directory ~ indicate user directory and is short name you gave computer when you installed or set up system first time you installed system or opened computer when new. Thanks Phil, I readily acknowledge my Mac illiteracy when it comes to out-of-the-ordinary installation matters. Some people on this list can't stand the thoughts of adding alternate directions for Mac. Some times to the point I feel like if they were in same room with me they beat me to a pulp with a 4 by 4. Therefore I do it sparingly. Mac's can use different versions at the same time as long as they are not named exactly the same. -- Phillip M. Thank you in advance. :) Separate install is fine, you *cannot* reuse the same profile between both versions without corruption though. 2.0.14-later should work just fine (there have been some minor reports relating to bookmarks, but are easily fixable) its the other direction that does not work. Oh wow. :( Yea, the corruption is acceptible for some users, but its not to me, which is why I make sure to call it out when someone mentions going back and forth in any way. It does auto-recover, *but* gets you data loss in the end. So My recommendation (if you have ANY intent/chance you'll revert): * Backup your _profile_ folder * Use help-Check for updates... download/install any update offers, repeat. * You should now be on 2.3.2 (reports as 2.3.1 for now) with your working profile. Updater tells me v2.2. Is it not out yet or do I need to wait again? 2.3.2 is out already, but the update from 2.0.14 only goes to 2.2 at this moment, I had planned to get you updates to 2.3.1 already, but with the chemspills this week (2.3.2/3) I'm holding back for now. As KaiRo said, once you update to 2.2, its just another update to go to 2.3.2 -- ~Justin Wood (Callek) ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
