Most likely, I lost my Nitro PDF plugin with the update. I installed PDF
Viewer for SeaMonkey extension:

I have also noticed that opening PDFs from a website in browser has
broken in the latest release. I read somewhere that support for some
older plugin formats has stopped with this release. Could it be the same
issue? I have a post later down that seems to be the same issue showing

Look in Helper Applications in the Browser section of Preferences.
You can specify what application will be used to open any file type.

Appreciate your reply and suggestion, but that did not change the
situation.  Any other ideas??  The browser seems to work just fine,
it is within the MAIL part that it fails to open.

So you receive PDF attachments and they don't open in the browser?

What did your Helper Application indicate they should be opening with?

I think if you have a working PDF Viewer extension the Content Type
should be "Portable Document Format(PDF)" and the Action "Preview in
SeaMonkey" (Maybe Firefox).

You could use a helper application.

Which one opens the PDF attachment in the MAIL window?

I use the Foxit PDF reader.  It does not open anything in the mail
window.  It uses its own window.

It seems I misunderstood the problem, and the OP wants the PDF to open
in the SeaMonkey browser window from the Mail & Newsgroups window when
they click "Open" in a messages attachment pane.

I hope they resolve the issue.

True, but if the Helper Applications pref is set to "Save," that
overrules the "Open" selection and opens a Save File dialog anyway. I
discovered that recently with an incoming Excel file, and it turned out
I had "Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet" (.xls) set to "Save file" but
"Microsoft Excel Worksheet" (.xlsx) set to "Use Microsoft Excel
(default)." Updating that pref fixed the behavior.

In theory Isaacs extension should do the job but there is issue 2:

I fixed it up sopme time ago locally by removing the lines but heard
that it broke again lately here. Didn't have time to look again at it.

The Helper Applications preferences appear to apply to browser and mail
even though they are in the Browser section. You may need to adjust the
settings for 3 Content Types: Adobe Acrobat Document, PDF file
(application/download), and PDF file (application/x-PDF). Mine
defaulted to Always ask. I clicked Use other, and selected Adobe
Acrobat Reader DC from the list of choices. Double-clicking or opening
a PDF attachment now opens the file in an Acrobat Reader window.
