Insofar as text of post is concerned, consider each 13 lines to be 1kb.

For most of my newsgroups i use 'lines', for very of them 'size'. You
can switch between the two with the Pref

- user.js -
user_pref(news.show_size_in_lines, true );

You also look at the far right of the bar that shows Subject sender
etc. at the little menu icon click on it and put a check mark next to lines.

Mhm? I can have a column to the right for the size of a posting. The
title of this column can either be lines or size, depending on the Pref.
In the second case i get the size in KB.

For text groups i prefer the number of lines.

It seemed the OP wanted to know the size of his post as he's
composing it - otherwise, he would have no control over it,
right? Isn't looking at the size of the post after it's been
posted going to be too late?

Perhaps I misunderstood what the OP wanted. After all, not
much was said.

He could use Ctrl+S while writing and then look into Drafts. And then it
does matter if he wants to see the number of lines or the size in KB.

Perhaps I misunderstood what the OP wanted.

Misunderstanding is very easy. Especially for me in English groups.

High, mostly. But many posters are from Austria and use sometimes words
which are unknown in Germany. Then i have to ask or guess from the

Whatever you have set for email also shows up in newsgroups as well.

Mhm, i can set it for an account or even for a single newsgroup.

They are global settings not customized according whether email or
newsgroups.

Yes, so it is without Mnenhy. I have just checked by disabling it. With
Mnenhy enabled i have my own setting. Junk-column only for mail and even
there not for all folders.

Why should i have a Junk-column for e.g. Sent or Draft? ;)

I agree that it only should be for email but that is just the way it is
setup.

I's never really bothered me I've simply ignored it since spam filtering
don't work on newsgroups and never has.
