For what it's worth, I've been running this latest build:

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49a1
Build identifier: 20160924005117

for a few days without any problems. Mind you, it's a simple setup, few
extensions, but I do use imap mail (1 mailbox), news (to this group) and
lightning via google provider to a shared family google calendar.

My only gotcha (so far) is the lack of Java applet support -
specifically 32-bit. I'll need to keep a 32-bit SeaMonkey for this since
it is for a government credential verification applet.

Have you tried installing a 64 bit version of Java?

A query - how can I test that SeaMonkey (32 and/or 64 bit) supports a
Java Webstart application. I've done some googling, (and duck duck

I've not been able to get Java (32bit or 64bit) to work with the Win64
version of SeaMonkey (https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/). I've
also not been able to get most of my add-on's and plugins to work
either. So, after testing for a week and trying everything that I can
think of to get them to work I switched back to the Win32 version of
SeaMonkey on Windows. Note: I didn't expect many of the add-ons to work
yet, but was surprised when the plugins didn't.

I know that Firefox has dropped support for most plugins as of FF51(SM
49) which is why Java applets don't work. The only Plugins available are:

Adobe Flash Player(out of date, but successfully updated to
  Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0 v. 23.0.0.162) and
Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.50428.0 v. 5.1.50428.0 updated to
  Current version: Silverlight 5 (5.1.50709.0)
Both now satisfy their relevant test pages.

All of my plugins/add-ons work just fine in SeaMonkey 64 linux (2.40 and
2.45).

A query - how can I test that SeaMonkey (32 and/or 64 bit) supports a

https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/deployment/webstart/running.html

Java Web Start software loads and runs the application based on
instructions in the JNLP file.

Try it now: Run Notepad

Works for me.

Thanks NoOp - that's what I couldn't find. Works for me too.

I'll continue using SM-64 v 49a on this PC - at least it gives it a
little testing. Also start trying additional add-ons, not that I use
many ... have the English (Australian) dictionary installed.

I'm a little less cavalier and running SM-32 v 48 a2 (as of today) on my
other PC - with somewhat regular backups in addition to the (maybe
risky) MS File History backup.

Re: SM 32/64 bits ?

2016-09-29 Thread Gordon Weast
I dual boot between Win7 and Ubuntu Linux on my 64 bit machine at home.
I share a profile on a common drive between them.

When I installed that 64 bit Linux build, the file has 2.40 in the name.
However, when I run it, 'Help->About Seamonkey' still has 2.39. Did
someone forget to update the version string in the contributed build?
Other than the version string, I can't tell if it really is 2.40 or not.

Of course, that means I see the 2.39 news page when I run on Linux after
Windows. Then when I go back to Windows and run I see the 2.40 news
page again. Mildly annoying, but not a real problem.

SeaMonkey 2.4 was released Sep 27, 2011 and is almost five years old.

According to your mail headers, you have SM 2.40 (March 10, 2016), not
the same thing.

As for the OP's question, I've been running 32-bit versions of SeaMonkey

Things might be different if you tried the reverse, running 64-bit SW on

SeaMonkey is a 32-bit application for Windows. You shouldn't have any
problems.

Plans are in the works for a 64-bit Windows version.

None. Doing it right now. You can run 32-bit applications on 64-bit
Windows, it is old 16-bit applications that you cannot run.
