Thanks for the comments and recommendations.  I have been reading your 
replies, and those found here on this newsgroup, most of today. I now
conclude that this is not the time for me to make a move to SM 2.0...as 
 SM 1.1.18 is not giving me any problems, and a move to SM2 could lead 
to problems. I will continue to read the exchanges here on this 
newsgroup, and hope that my confidence will grow to the point where I 
believe I can make the move to SM2.  I am sure that I will have more 
questions, as that move nears.  Also, I hope that a future modification 
will make the move from SM1 to SM2 happen more smoothly...what are the 
chances?

You may want to wait for some minor release, e.g. SeaMonkey 2.0.1 or 
2.0.2. You should not wait for SeaMonkey 2.1, though, since that one 
will probably give a worse migration experience (AFAIK the ability to 
migrate download history will be removed in that version).

I disagree. If you do not, chances are you will lose most of the add-ons 
you installed.

They've had plenty of time already. Starting with the beta, there was a 
feature freeze, and that's when they could have started their work.


I'm partially guilty of not being on time as well, as my extension 
installs and works properly since a long time ago, but there's a small 
visual problem.


Then again, I /am/ working on the next major version.

much expertise, I would suggest: zipping up your *whole* profile and 
seamonkey directories after setting your zip program so that *it records 
the paths* of files and storing the zipped files in a safe place.


There's no need to save the program folder. You can just reinstall 
SeaMonkey from the installer.

You don't need the crappy Extension Manager extension anymore. SeaMonkey 
has its own manager now.

Hi there. I have read recently that when installing 2.0 don't install
the the same directory as version 1.1.18 or it will disable the
application and both versions will be disabled. Install 2.0 into a
different directory or the default install settings location in the
install program. Also, It may be wise to first uninstall the earlier
version before installing 2.0 because this is what happened to me,
although my SM2.0 works properly, the earlier version of Seamonkey is
still in my computer and in my windows quicklaunch. I just keep both
versions in my computer until I find out if uninstalling the older
version will disable the newer version. The version 2.0 may not be an
upgrade but an entirely independent program.

First, I think it would be more fair to say that few add-ons are yet 
available for SM 2.0. I think this is quite normal, give some time to 
the authors to do the necessary changes for those add ons which remain 
relevant and to create new ones specifically designed for SM 2.0


second, I think it is always advisable to wait some time before changing 
versions. SM 2.0 is not an upgrade. So, if you are not to comfortable 
with this, waiting for an update of SM 2.0 might be wise.


On the other hand, problems which might occur moving from your previous 
version to SM 2.0 are likely to occur too while moving to an updated 
version, since I believe a good part of them are related to the import 
of profile. This was my case, the installer was not able to import my 
profile (probably because it slowly evolved from the Netscape days) and 
this was actually an opportunity to do some house cleaning by starting 
afresh.


Among the things you can do to protect yourself which do not require

If something goes very wrong when you install the new version, then it 
is only a matter of uninstalling it, deleting the profile folder and the 
program folder, and restoring where they belong the original profile and 
program folders by unzipping the zipped files. No need to mess with the 
registry.


There are many other ways to proceed, but this one does not require any 
program you do not have on your machine and nor a lot of expertise. 
Whichever way you choose, do not rely on trusting "default locations". I 
believe it is indispensible to make note of what they are before doing 
anything.
