So, now let's figure out which add-on was causing the problem.
1. Start SeaMonkey normally,
2. Go to Tools-->Add-ons_Manager, then on the left, select the 
"Extensions" tab.
3. Each extension has a corresponding [Disable] button. Disable one and 
restart SeaMonkey.


Keep the problem still exists, disable the next extension. Keep going 
until you've found the culprit.

Since two days I cannot open a new tab in the Browser going to 
"File","New", New Browser Tab"> it does not work any more!!!
When I right click a link I cannot get the option "Open link in a new 
Tab" it just does not work!!! But the option "Open link in a new window" 
that one works.

From the Mail and news I cannot open a link by cliking on HTML links
What' happening there
If someone has an idea???

Yes, SM works with deactivated add-ons! However I don't have the 
add-on "Download Youtube Videos as MP4" mentioned by Joachim Buschlinger.

True, and although I have personally considered it, I'm on Mac, with no
non-standard add-ons, and never know if someone actually did discover a
real problem.

I was, also, thinking of the golden days of Usenet in the 80's when
moderators would post an FAQ.  Could that be automated?  I suppose those
are on the web now. But yet even today, in 2013, typing "I updated
seamonkey and now it's broken" in Google gets you nothing useful.

But newsgroups still do that.  Chris I. has a useful site but its 
existence isn't advertised save in his sig - dunno why no FAQ put out 
regularly - maybe since mozilla's current release policies would involve 
too much maintenance?

True, and although I have personally considered it, I'm on Mac, with no 
non-standard add-ons, and never know if someone actually did discover a 
real problem.

Joachim Buschlinger and I both use the same plugin - the Youtube 
download one.  He identified it as being the cause of his problem.  I 
knew it under another name but (as I wrote immediately above) it has 
been updated very recently and I have that update as well.

Do you have one of the YouTube extensions/addons?  Specifically the one 
allowing you to Download?  Mine has obviously (and silently) 
auto-updated recently, I think there was a name-change at the same time.


I posted a thread to this group two days ago.  There have been 6 threads 
started since and three of them are for this problem, a silent update to 
an addon would be a very good reason for there being so many incidences 
at once.
The Joachim Buschlinger thread is probably the best one - you understand 
German.
If it does fix the problem, please say so (your own thread or this one)

I had *exactly* that problem for a couple of hours yesterday - my 
"Browser just became unuseable" if you look at one of the threads above.


I use Linux, I can see that you are using Windows.

What I did was:
- Close Seamonkey completely
- Rename the profile directory
- Create one with the original name such as ft45h78z.default
- Copy the original to the ft45h78z.default

There is absolutely no reason why that should help but it worked for me. 
 I was actually planning to restore single directories/files from a 
previous backup into the new ft45h78z.default but it worked immediately. 
 ymmv!
