Strange behavior
I like to get on FoxNews a lot and make Conservative comments. It's more fun that a barrel of monkeys, as they say ! When I want to change something, or - when I start up writing and that darned "You have to Sign In to Comment" thing takes over - I lose everything I wrote. So now I highlight and Copy (Ctrl-C) what I wrote before I lose it. Well - after I finish the Sign-In, I try to Ctrl-V my saved stuff back onto the post area and it doesn't work ! BUT - if I go up to EDIT and PASTE in the Menu - it pastes ! What is the difference between Ctrl-V and PASTE "in the Menu" concerning what I saved to the clipboard ? Seems odd. If most websites work fine, and it's just a few that behave strangely, your settings are probably fine and it's probably script on those pages as you suspect below. On FoxNews, I can get to an obvious link by right clicking and saving the link, then pasting it into the Location bad...but no action clicking on the link on the FoxNews page. I suspect there are "Scripts" running that have taken over and have shut down the page while they are loading. Could I be correct ? Quite likely. Either there's so much script running that your browser slows to a crawl, or the links themselves are implemented via scripting which might not work until the page has completely loaded (or, in some cases, might only work with some browsers - document downloads on my pension provider's website are currently implemented through some convoluted scripting which only works in Internet Explorer!) I know pretty much zip about web site construction. How does one control "Scripts" ? Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Scripts & Plugins - Disabling "Enable JavaScript for Browser" will prevent any scripts from running. But you might find that some sites are not usable at all with scripting disabled. Some seem to rely on scripting for even basic functionality, such as loading images and following links, and don't have any fallback when scripting is disabled. - There are a few other options just below that which can disable the more invasive things scripts might do. I don't think any of them would affect what you're seeing though. I've disabled all except "Disable or replace context menus"; even with that enabled, if a script has replaced the context (right-click) menu after right-clicking you can press the "Esc" key to close the script's menu and get the normal one. A more extreme option is the NoScript extension to block scripts by default until you explicitly allow them to run or whitelist them. That does sometimes take a bit of experience and experimentation to work out which scripts are needed for a page to work properly. Disabling scripts for a page could make it more responsive, or could prevent it from working at all; some even show up almost completely blank until scripts are enabled. I sometimes get a message that a script is running stop continue drop dead. DoctorBill Ah - yesgreat interest in my questions.. I might add, what is this window that sometimes opens when I right click on a tab and it asks me "Do I REALLY want to close this page ?" Seldom happens - why ? That one's almost certainly script on the page. Their page is so important that you're unlikely to want to look at anything else. Therefore you must have accidentally clicked away from it and will of course welcome the opportunity to stay after all... -- Mark. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Switching Profiles: Strange Behavior
I have four SeaMonkey profiles. I was using Thunderbird to compose a reply to another thread in this newsgroup, and I needed information from two those profiles. When I switched from A to B, the window for B opened behind the Thunderbird window. When I switched from B back to A, the window for A opened in front of the Thunderbird window. Why do I see this inconsistency? By the way, this switching back and forth between profiles is why I use Thunderbird as my newsreader rather than SeaMonkey's Mail Newsgroups component. With the latter, my Mail Newsgroups session would have closed while going from profile A to B. While in profile B, I would not have the same newsgroup history as I had when I started composing even if I duplicated the Mail Newsgroups portion of profile A into B. -- David E. I don;t have an answer for your main question. However, you could use the Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings and use the Local Directory field to point your multiple profiles to the same mail and newsgroup data. You do have to be careful not ot overwrite your news rc files, but it can be handy. I do this to have the same mail/news data in SeaMonkey, Thunderbird, and Netscape 7.2. It can work as well for multiple profiles in SeaMonkey. Lee ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
