Re: [Sursound] ICSA 2015 in Graz this week

2015-09-14 Thread Sönke Pelzer
Hi Daniel,

I'll be there and hope many of you guys join. The conference topic is 3D
audio production chain, so a lot of questions that have been asked in
Sursound over the last couple of months (e.g. concerning production of
immersive sound for VR films) will find answers and solutions there.

It will also be the first time, that I can present a VST/AU/AAX-plugin,
that can encode & decode Higher-Order Ambisonics (no order limit), VBAP,
and Binaural with full automation support, OSC remote (for head-tracking
and source movements), and 3D reverberation from a ray tracing room
acoustics simulation.

If you want to see it, come to ICSA. :)

See you there,
Sönke

[Sursound] Workshop – La Spatialisation Sonore @ SCRIME, Bordeaux

2015-09-14 Thread Trond Lossius
For anyone in or near Bordeaux tomorrow (Tuesday) I’m contributing to a
workshop on spatial sound at SCRIME - Studio de Création et de Recherche en
Informatique et Musique Electroacou. I plan to present documentation from some
recent artistic projects, discuss my use of ambisonic field recordings, my
artistic research into how this can be used as material for my sound
installations, and my workflow when using such recordings. As part of this I’ll
also give an introduction to and demonstration of AmbisonicToolkit for Reaper.

The workshop takes place in the Hémicyclia studio in the LaBRI building, and
we’ll have a 16 channel 3D system available for listening demonstrations. More
info here:

http://scrime.labri.fr/blog/workshop-la-spatialisation-sonore/

Best,
Trond

Re: [Sursound] Soundfield MKV callibration question

2015-09-14 Thread Jon Honeyball
As an aside, its a point of particular annoyance that there is no test tone
generator on the ST350 or ST450 control units to allow for proper level setting
in a DAW, and thus to compensate for wobbly inputs on the recorder.

I asked for it, and nothing happened on the redesign of the control unit.

Fortunately, I have a Sounddevices 788T where I can gang 4 inputs together, but
a “sanity check” from the control unit through to DAW would be reassuring.

This doesn’t impact mic calibration of course, but I just wanted to have a rant
and get it off my chest :-)

2015-09-14 Thread James Anthony Enda Bates
Hey everyone,
Jörn I was thinking that too, but I would have assumed that the test
tones, which are intended to be used to calibrate the inputs on the
recorder, wouldn't have included this -3dB reduction on the W channel, even
if the actual b-format signal coming from the microphone did?

John: I've emailed TSL myself last week but havnt heard anything back as of
yet.
