Re: [Sursound] B format and atoms
Certainly the easiest workflow would be to simply decode your B-format to your bed format, 9.1 or 7.1.4, and mix into the bed directly. I don't know of any (released) decoder that does these layouts in a ProTools world, but you can always just use 7.1 and ignore height to get things working. Another approach starts by using a nice symmetrical or semi-symmetrical layout, for which the ambisonic decode works better, then use ATMOS panners to put the outputs of this decoder into the proper positions. This uses up objects for however many virtual speakers you use, of course. I have a sneaking suspicion that properly done square (or maybe 5 channel w/ height) done this way would sound good on the widest possible variety of playback systems. The first approach isn't ideal because, well 7.1, etc. aren't ideal. The second approach would be even more prone to have ATMOS mess it up somehow, though things that are normal in large theaters, like front to back delay lines, would play havoc with ambisonics either way and I don't know if this is sometimes or always present in ATMOS theaters. I've heard enough real feedback from folks trying this to know that it can sound fabulous, but not not enough to tell you how get good results every time. I would also suggest that by being much more directional in its virtual speakers, a parametric decoder is likely to suffer less from either of multi-speaker or delay issues, at least for highly directional sources. I would highly recommend a parametric decoder for this application. thats atmos > ambsionics - Im sur etehre would be a way to go the other way round, maybe for some Amos mixes as well could be converted , but not all - if they make full use of the system On 15 June 2016 at 20:07, Augustine Leudar <augustineleu...@gmail.com> wrote: > Im not sure if you could to be honest - the point of atmos - from what I > can tell , is that you have speakers diffused throughout the space > including in the middle of the audience - so you can get sounds to go > through, in between, right next to the listeners. Re: [Sursound] B format and atoms
Im not sure if you could to be honest - the point of atmos - from what I can tell , is that you have speakers diffused throughout the space including in the middle of the audience - so you can get sounds to go through, in between, right next to the listeners. Even with focussed sources you cant really do that with ambisonics so Im not sure how well it would translate, happy to be proved wrong though ! [Sursound] B format and atoms
Are there tools out there for putting b format into atmos, and then doing atmos authoring? What are my options? Ta much jon -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [Sursound] Interactive Audio Systems Symposium, York - Call for Proposals Deadline July 1st
Hello all, Apologies for any cross-posting. A timely reminder that the deadline for proposals for papers or posters for the Interactive Audio Systems Symposium is July 1st. The symposium is a free event to be held at the University of York on the 23rd September. Please do forward to anyone you think would be would be interested in participating. Many thanks, Gavin Call for Contributions Interactive Audio Systems Symposium, University of York York, UK Friday 23rd September, 2016 Recent advances in low-cost motion-tracking and sensing technologies, coupled with increased computing power have paved the way for new methods of audio production and reproduction. Interactive audio systems can now readily utilise non-tactile data such as listener location, orientation, gestural control and even biometric feedback, such as heart rate, to intelligently adjust sound output. Such systems offer new creative possibilities for a diverse range of applications ranging from virtual reality, mobile technologies, in-car audio, gaming, social media and film and TV production. The University of York is pleased to announce a one-day symposium dedicated to this topic of interactive audio systems. The symposium will explore the perceptual, signal processing and creative challenges and opportunities arising from such audio systems affected through enhanced human-computer interaction. The symposium will consist of original paper and poster sessions as well as invited presentations from key industry figures and demonstrations of emerging interactive audio technologies. We are now accepting proposals (Abstract and Precis) for 4-8 page papers or posters on novel research in related fields to interactive audio including, but not limited to, the following areas: - Moving sounds and moving listeners - Audio for Virtual Reality - Spatial audio techniques - Psychoacoustics and perception - Signal processing for interactive audio - Robust listener control - Motion tracking - Game audio - Real-time audio synthesis - Interactive music generation - Workflows for interactive audio - Sound design for interactive audio We also invite proposals for tutorials, workshops and demos to be presented on the day. [Sursound] Conversion from FOA to TOA ? How to and why or not?
I am not convinced of the need for this when having only my own FOA recordings in my library but... As most of the discussions are about higher order tools the idea comes to mind, What is the simplest or best way to upscale FOA to FOA. Bo-Erik -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
