Re: [Biofuel] Filtering before use
You can also use a RACOR or SEPAR filter. These filters eliminate also water out of the oil. I have placed to of them in serie and have a nice product for burning. I am thinking that a paper coffee filter is over kill(not to mention slow). Would a nylon stocking work? Brent Hi Brent, I use an in line service station fuel filter. As I pump straight out of the bottom of the processor and into the tank, this filter picks up all the left over nasties. And for what they are they are cheap. Another option woulkd be to secure a second hand Range rover Fuel filter, same as the diesel and service station filters just smaller. It too has a replacable element. a coffee filter or a sock... talcum powder is about 10 microns standard table salt is at least 100 microns beach sand is at least 200 microns. I buy filter bags from McMaster-Carrpage 328 in their online catalog they are just a few $ http://www.mcmaster.com/ or try this part # to get to the correct page 5162K83 Brent S wrote: How should I filter my bio diesel after washing and before I use it? Re: [Biofuel] Filtering before use
Hello Brent, If there's a tractor suply near you they sell 5 and 10 micron cartriges with housing. I got the see through one and hooked it up in line after my barell pump. I backflush the filter by leaving some fuel in the line and cranking the pump backwards. make sure you let the BD settle before you filter. Stearates can form and you'll have to filter it again. Re: [Biofuel] Filtering before use
filter it, especially if you've let it settle and decant from the top, or at least from well above the bottom. (Our 200-litre drum storage tank has a 3 standpipe in the outlet valve.) It's held that all the gunge and particles and stuff drops out with the glyc by-product layer anyway, and there's a lot to be said for that. Anyway your motor already has filters, a particle filter in the tank and the main fuel filter, and many people add a third cheap filter upstream of the main filter, a good idea. Jeremy mentioned tractor filters, they work well for this, if they're similar to the ones we get here in Japan from Kubota or Yanmar.
