Re: [biofuel] Re: Kerosene heater on Veg oil?
even with heated vegetable oil, I don't think these will work well. kerosene (paraffin) is lighter than diesel. heated veg oil is thicker than diesel. Harmon, I just did a search on Yahoo Groups for stoves and stoves and biodiesel and got zip. Could you post the link for the stoves group you mention? It's good work, but I think they have a long way to go. The cooking stoves burning SVO were referred to on the Stoves list, but I don't think they're members of that list - that's the Hohenheim stove, listed at Reinhard Henning's jatropha site: http://www.jatropha.org/cooker/stumpf-2000.htm http://www.jatropha.org/cooker/photos-2000.htm http://jatropha.org/documents/stumpf-kocher-02-09.pdf They told us they'd need $300,000 (from us) and three years to develop it, but that's not how we do things, even if we had a spare $300,000. I sometimes wonder whether appropriate technology developed that way ever gets to solve any real problems at ground level. The main problem, of course, is indoor smoke pollution, not forest destruction, as many believe, though wood availability, or rather unavailability, is a huge problem in marginal areas. I doubt the SVO/WVO also, but belive that it will work with bio diesel. This since it is an European product and the cars in Europe are adopted for bio diesel since 1996. But to be sure, I sent an email with the questions to them, we will see if I get an answer. Re: [biofuel] Re: Kerosene heater on Veg oil?
Your best bet is to take an old wick, or spare and try this: 1. soak the wick with a small mixture enough to saturate - 90% kerosene 10% veg oil ... see how that burns. 2. same thing - 80% to 20 % - see how that burns. 3. then 70%, 30% , you get the idea- keep going until it won't burn without going out. I think it depends on the viscosity of the oil that you have. No one will be able to accurately tell you because their oil may be different. You have to experiment a little.
