Sorry Nick, The use of alternative fuels does not come completely duty free. Non dino fuels are rebated by 20 pence per litre. Customs and Excise Notice 179E has all the details. Still even on a 3 litre trial there must be some satisfaction. Good luck with your conversions. I have seen diesels running on rape seed oil at farm shows. They had an oil warmer tank on one of them to keep it thin. Knowing the history of rape as a source material for making plastics, I think I would run it through the a bio-diesel conversion process to get rid of the possibly harmful glycerides. That would be a better use for it rather than eating it. Con artists have re-named it "canola oil". The question is why? You just want to see if it smells like fries? To see if it runs? Answer, yes, and yes. Now, you have to make the real decisions: Two-tank? Yes. Take your chances on the direct injection engines? Up to you. How long do you plan to keep them around? If you are going to trade them in a another year or two, then put on a two-tank system and get going. If you plan to run them a long time and a lot of kilometers on vegoil, maybe look at going further an investigate the idea of blending as well.
