RE: [biofuel] OT & Personal

2003-05-08 Thread Mark Kaufman

Kim
My wife, Boo and I, will have been married for 20 years this July, and
we are happier now than ever!! However, all of our friends that married
around 1983, '84 and '85 are all divorced now, some two or three times
over. We know only one other couple that has been married over ten
years. I agree with the idea of the self-centeredness of our society.
Another underlying (or subconsciencous) idea causing this 30 or 40
year-old trend is the "throw-away" or disposable lifestyle Americans
have developed. When arguments arise, people tend to take the easy way
out, rather than work through their problems, which is the same
mentality of "throw-it-away-when-you-are-tired-of-it" kind of thinking.
This is contrary to our fathers and grandfathers who lived through
adversity like the Great-Depression or the World Wars, where people had
to pull together to survive.

Re: [biofuel] OT & Personal

2003-05-07 Thread Greg and April

Kim,

I would guess that many of the people that your husband talked to would
rather settle for mediocrity, then strive for something better, and that is
why they had 'livable' marriages, rather than good or great marriages.

The wife and I have been married over 7 years, and while we don't always
agree, we believe that family is the most important thing we can have, and
because we love each other, we work out the differences that come up.
Marriage to many people has become, like many other things in this modern
world, "disposable", and to be used at ones will. My grandparents were
married well over 50 years and while they had 'tiffs' and disagreements
about things, I think that anyone that knew them, would say they had a
wonderful marriage that could be used as an example ( I know that I try ),
but again they worked to make it what it was.

I believe as a society most of the population has gotten very self centered.
Thus the short marriages.
This list I believe is not a representative sample as many people here are
idealistic and not self centered.
I have been with my lady about 24 years and we hate being apart.

Kim,

He scored some points, here is an other one,

Follow in Rodney's footsteps.Rodney wakes up at home with a
huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he
sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table. He
sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed.
Rodney looks around the room and sees that it is in a perfect order,
spotless, clean. So's the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins and
notices a note on the table, "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left
early to go shopping. Love you." So he goes to the kitchen and sure enough
there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the
table, eating. Rodney asks, "Son, what happened last night?" His son says,
"Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and delirious. Broke some
furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you
stumbled into the door." Confused, Rodney asks, "So, why is everything in
order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?" His son
replies, "Oh that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to
take your pants off you said, "Lady leave me alone, I'm married'!"

RE: [biofuel] OT & Personal

2003-05-07 Thread steckly . gary

Obviously Kim, you and your husband share many interests, some of which many
would consider unusual in the extreme (burning waste grease for fuel?!)

I know that when I asked my wife to go "dumpster diving" with me for WVO
behind the local fast food joints, she immediately checked our contract to
see if that was grounds for divorce. Finding nothing specific, she agreed
that I could indulge in this "pastime" providing that I didn't solicit her
help and that it wouldn't increase the number of varmints prowling around
our place checking out the source of any "aromatic esters" that might be
stored therein. Also, I was told that I was to confine my activities to the
interior of the woodshed so as to not further detract from the property
value (sometimes I think she views me as more of a liability than an
asset...).

In any event, I tolerate her cats, and she tolerates my 22 year old Merc
diesel which will soon be fuelled on vegetable oils. Concerning your
obviously happy partnership with Garth, I guess this only goes to prove the
old adage... the family that transesterificates together, stays together.

Congratulations on finding your soul-mate.

Once in a while I like to find out what's going on out in the 'real' world,
not my piece of paradise. Since this list has a large population scattered
all over the world, it is a nice place to ask. Actually I am wondering if
the self sufficient lifestyle makes for happier marriages? Make biofuel
not divorce, maybe. How's that for a conection.

muffins (on almost all accounts) and probably have never figured out how to
be happy with themselves, much less someone else.
