Hi Ibraheem

well, then you have to use a rect with a hole in it as your clipPath,
something like this:

http://www.w3.org/2000/svg";
 xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink";   >

Hi Usman

well i guess you cant really protect anything, if you send it over the
net ! if you want to avoid other people using your code, dont publish !
see, if you hide the right click menue, for example, i can just view the
file with a browser without svg viewer, so i will download the svg file
and have the source.
i could use a different svg implementation, and see the source there.
what you can do is make it hard for people to use your code(use an
obfuscator). but for someone who really wants your code this will be no
problem.

sorry, but maybe someone else has got another idea.
cheers

[svg-developers] Re: how to draw rialroad line style in SVG

2005-07-18 Thread Heiko Niemann
Hi,

here is a sample where you can see what Peter Kalev suggested:

http://www.zuccaralloo.de/devgroup/samples/railroad.svg

So you could define entities which makes things easier when you need
to change a path. Since this sample also uses textpath and animation
it probably just will run with ASV3/ASV6.

Heiko

the beginElement() method does not work in this context - we have
established that i think

yes, an alternative is add the to the defs and link to it
when the object has been created (i'll probably also do this from a
defs too) -- although I havent tested this method yet(!)

 one way that is stable, add the animate tag by hand, and just change

RE: [svg-developers] Re: how to draw rialroad line style in SVG

2005-07-18 Thread Peter Kalev
Draw a line with stroke=3 stroke-color=red, now copy and paste the line
and change the style to stroke=1 stroke-color=white, make the white line
an even dash-array...

You got yourself a topographical representation of a railroad... :)

although both SetTimeout and setInterval have worked, they are
perticuarly unstable so not really the solution

the question remains:

what is the best way to programmtically begin an animation that you
have added thru the DOM ?

oh in that case, you can just do this:
...
obj.appendChild(a);
a.beginElement();

 if that doesnt work, try

a.beginElementAt(0.1)

[svg-developers] Re: [that damned] beginElement()

2005-07-18 Thread gh_urban
Thanks Holger,

did the trick

what i was trying to originally was after the element was
added then to run the animation

I was using
   a.setAttribute("begin", "indefinite");

and then sending
   document.getElementById('anim2').beginElement()

but I'm guessing this beginElement() is sent too soon afte the
appendChild so that it doesn't actualy function - it can begin
something that doesn;'t yet exist!!!

if I hold the begineElement() call back with setInterval it works as
intened, but this is cludgy!!!

Thanks again

sure its possible, the biggest problem right now is that
getScreenCTM() is not implemented correctly in FF ( see bug :
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293224 ) (vote for this bug!)
which you need to go from clientX/Y to document or element coordinates.

p.s.: check out my latest creation, its not exactly a slider, but might
be usefull anyways:
http://www.treebuilder.de/svg/guistuff/knob/knop2.svg
it uses a simplyfied getScreenCTM implementation that behaves like
root.getScreenCTM()

Hi

use addEventListener instead of setAttribute("onclick",...)
 so instead of:

obj.setAttribute("onclick","document.getElementById('anim2').beginElement();");
do this:
 obj.addEventListener("click",function
(){document.getElementById('anim2').beginElement();},false)

you could also just comment out this line , and do
a.setAttribute("begin","click")
which has the same effect.

 var a = document.createElement("animate");

//now set the attributes

I could be wrong but it looks like a disaggregation of the data in the

[svg-developers] Trying to understand an application (from a user perspective)

2005-07-18 Thread Marjorie Roswell
I'm a little puzzled by:
http://www.ika.ethz.ch/isakowski/migration/

Of course, I don't speak German, so that's part of the problem (that
is German?). Also, when I press the "Mehr Info" button, the help URL
isn't completely loading.

So, I understand all the usual stuff, panning, zooming, classes,
legends, colors (all nicely implemented), but I haven't figured out
what the boxes in the lower left-hand corner represent. I gather it's
some sort of aggregated data?

Curious,

Margie

Hi Maria
i believe its not directly possible, what you can do is allow zoom/pan
on your outer svg frame, and then have a group holding the content that
should not scale/translate.
you can then iverses the transformation of the root element, and apply
it to that group.
here is a simple example:

http://www.w3.org/2000/svg";
 xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink";  onload="reposition()"
onscroll="reposition()" onzoom="reposition()" onresize="reposition()"
viewBox="0 0 1024 768" >

 function reposition(){
var g=document.getElementById("fixedContent")
var m=document.documentElement.getScreenCTM()
m=m.inverse()
g.setAttribute("transform","matrix("+m.a+",0,0,"+m.d+","+m.e+","+m.f+")")
 }

Thanks Jim for sharing this script. I am not sure if I can build a
slider then, or make Kevin's slider work on Deer Park but I'll look
into it and give it a try.

Thanks Jorg for the suggestion. I heard about Spark at SVGopen 2003
but didn't have a look recently. So today I tried their widgets with
Deer Park Alpha 2 and the slider - at least as it comes right out of
the box - doesn't work with the native Mozilla SVG engine.

Hi rob

I noticed that many of your points had been 'widowed' from the '-'
sign, this will cause display problems because the '-' chracter is
not allowed in the d.value, it is only allowed as an sign of the
number value

e.g my parser read "M - 75.76"
when it actuall should read "M -75.76"

also you viewbox is vastly out of proportion with the path element:
your elemnt is about 10 units wide and maybe 6 units high

at the level you SCALED down element will never be visible, although
it is there (when the sign is corrected) [it is like trying to see a
Pea from space!]

i changed the viewbox to  viewBox="-80 40
30 20"

then it was visible

hope this helps

Did you have a look at Spark [1] ? It has a bunch of useful widgets, the
slider is only one of them.

It's easy to add parseXML to Deer Park, just include this script:

if (!window.parseXML && Window && Window.protoype) {
 Window.prototype.parseXML = function (s,doc) {
 if (doc==null) {
   doc=(new DOMParser()).parseFromString(s, "text/xml");
   return doc;
 } else {
   var doc2=(new DOMParser()).parseFromString(s, "text/xml");
   doc.importNode(doc2, true)
   return doc2;
 }
}

but there's no reason why a slider needs the functionality.

Jim.

[svg-developers] slider without using parseXML, is it possible? (Firefox native SVG)

2005-07-18 Thread meikelneu
I am currently experimenting with the SVG enabled preview versions of
Firefox 1.1 (Deer Park Alpha 2). So far I got to understand how to
rewrite most of the scripts I use so that they will work on both ASV3
and Firefox_1.1.

However, I am a big fan of Kevin Lindsey's slider. Since his slider
uses parseXML it will only run with the Adobe SVG plugin.

Does anybody know if it is possible to built a slider with the
functionality Firefox_1.1. will offer? It wouldn't have to be that
universal as Kevin's but is it possible?

Other than that I am quite happy with Deer Park Alpha 2, at least on
Windows. Unfortunately on MacOSX the SVG implementation is based on
the Cairo engine and currently very slow and incomplete. Also mixed
namespaces don't seem to work on the Mac version.
