Hello Francis,

It seems on my WIndows box using Firefox, the link www.MobiusPortal.com goes to
a page http://www.mobiusportal.com/ie.html [sic!] that has nothing on it but a
title and an email link...?

Is this what you are looking for? It is for a rectangle but obviously you
could do the same for a line.

Hello, Everyone, I am new to SVG and would like to know if someone can
share with me how to accomplished the following:

I want to go from point A to point B, in a straight line or path, but
have the line/path painted/colored/stroked over time as it goes along
the path, similar to drawing a line with a pencil from the top of a
page to the bottom without lifting the pencil off the paper, so
instead of rendering the line instantly, it unfolds in some color over
time...

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

[svg-developers] dynamic manipulation of SVG content using java

2005-08-10 Thread phrasenotfound
Hi,

I've been searching and trying a bunch of different things over the
last couple of days, and I can't seem to get the desired results.
Here is my requirement:

 I have a bunch of Java2D Shapes that I would like to pass through the
SVGGenerator to generate my SVG file via SVGGraphics2D.stream().
However, I haven't quite figured out the best way to modify the DOM so
I can associate my own intelligent information with the svg paths or
even modify the DOM to change or add some SVG tags.
  For example: I have drawn a rectangle and on mouse clicked event i
am plotting circles over the rectangle. Now, on click of a button i
should be able to hide all the circles. This can be done by getting
the circle elments from SVG Dom and set the visible attribute. But,
here my question is,

  1. There is no id element in the DEFAULT SVG content generated by
the SVGGraphics2D. How to give id attribute to each element ?

   - Should i create the SVG circle elements myself and should add it
to the SVGDom, is that the correct way ? and should take care of
adding it under appropriate parents etc., So each time for a mouse
click this must be done ? Ooops!!! then lot of work, performance will
be poor, i think.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated because I'm trying to come up
with a proof of concept to show off the advantages of on-the-fly,
generated SVG.

Note: No swing components only java2d shapes.

Thanks,
Leo

As usual, exceptional work. This is a really crucial part of cross-UA
functionality. I hope you don't mind that I link to it from the SVG wiki...
Maybe your could talk a bit about it on the wiki, yourself. I only made a

RE: [svg-developers] Let's make some income from SVG

2005-08-10 Thread Doug Schepers
Hi, Francis-

While I'm not driving a Mercedes (or even a Prius, which I'd prefer), I am
making money using SVG (as well as other technologies). In my opinion, the
key is twofold:
1) Realize where SVG is the best solution (there are many places it's not);
2) Use SVG in concert with other technologies, as was meant to be done;
3) [bonus fold] Find a need, and fill that need, with SVG if appropriate.

SVG is not an end-all-be-all solution, but it is appropriate in many places.
Personally, I think that pushing browser vendors to adopt SVG (natively, if
possible) and supporting those efforts (donating time or money to efforts
like MozSVG, rewarding vendors by buying products that use SVG), especially
when they lead to true inline, multi-namespace environments.

I also think that this list is not the place to do evangelizing pro or con
SVG. Why would, for instance, Microsoft be monitoring this list.
Implementors who are supporting SVG are already supporting SVG. You're
preaching to the choir here... Find companies that aren't supporting SVG who
should be, and start an email campaign to convince them.

That's not true. Adobe makes money selling, for instance, Illustrator and
Adobe Graphics Server, both of which have SVG as part of their output.

You are looking to make money from SVG, and I think that's great. A rising
tide raises all ships. But if you're only advertising on svg-dev, you need
to fire your marketing guy. Aim your sights on a vertical who needs a
graphics solution, and start demoing your cool tech to them.

Hey, check your hyperbolemeter... I think you might have it set a bit high.

| Set your sites on making an honest return on your

| your input.

Amen! Don't tell anyone anything unless they pay you. That's sure to spread
adoption. (BTW, Francis, you own me $325 for looking at your site.)

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be paid. But when I have time, I'm happy to
help out people on this list, or on IRC (freenode#svg), or by helping with
the SVG Wiki. Without a community of developers, SVG would really be dead.
And not fun. And not profitable.

We are seeking beta users that can demonstrate real-time dyanamic

Subject: [svg-developers] how to write to a file using posturl()

Dear all,

I'm back again with question!
I am using different ways to post some data to an html page:

function display_vol(evt){
  var vol = js_arr[0];

  svgdoc = evt.target.ownerDocument;
  alert("before postURL()");
  var somevar = 'In SVG';
  //postURL('svgWrite.html&avol='+vol,somevar ,callback);
//postURL("svgWrite.html?avol=",vol ,callback);
//postURL("svgWrite.html" ,"avol="+vol ,callback);
  postURL("svgWrite.html?avol="+vol,vol ,callback);

}

function callback(obj){
  var string = '';
  if(obj.success){
alert("success!");
string = obj.content;
alert(string);

  }else{
  alert("request failed !");
  }
}

I tried all the ways commented in the code above to post some data,
but in html I can not get that value when I run this code. Plese, I
would really appreciate it if I can get some guidance..

Thank you
DD

[svg-developers] 31 SVG Drawing programs.

2005-08-10 Thread xeipon2
I compiled a list of Vector drawing programs as a part of a
column I wrote for maa.org:

http://www.maa.org/editorial/mathgames/mathgames_08_01_05.html

Of these 65 programs I've listed, 31 of them support SVG. Of
these, 14 of them are free.

The next step would be to evaluate each of these to see how
clean their code is, whether they actually work well with a
variety of SVG tasks, an so on.

[svg-developers] Update: Dynamic Loading of Vector Geodata for SVG Mapping Applications Using Pos

2005-08-10 Thread Andreas Neumann
The tutorial "Dynamic Loading of Vector Geodata for SVG Mapping
Applications Using Postgis, PHP and getURL()/XMLHttpRequest()" was
updated to also include XMLHttpRequest - which is available on
MozillaSVG:

http://www.carto.net/papers/svg/postgis_geturl_xmlhttprequest/

The script now detects whether getURL() or XMLHttpRequest is
available and chooses the available method. The example was tested
in Deerpark2. Please note that the map navigation function does not
work properly in Deerpark2, due to a problem with .getScreenCTM in
Deerpark (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293224)

If you find any mistakes in the tutorial or have any suggestion to
improve it, please contact me.

All the best,

Hi reindeer

the aspect ratio is determined or set by your root SVG elements viewBox.
you could use a simple viewBox like this:

viewBox="0 0 23600 12700"

no width and height attribute, and no preserveAspectRatio( defaults to
"xMidyMid meet").

that should do the trick

[svg-developers] Multilingual support in SVG Tiny?

2005-08-10 Thread Ahmed Salman
Hi!

I am downloading the following sample code in Sony Ericsson K750i
which should display text either in UK english, US english or Spanish
based on viewers language preferences.

http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-SVG-20010904/DTD/svg10.dtd";>

Use of switch element

  en-UK

en

Un círculo

However its not displaying text in any language. I was expecting it
will display text at least in english in the mobile .

I also tried by embedding SVG fonts, but it still not display any text.

SVGT specification says that i should give language codes instead of
textual language description in systemLanguage attribute e.g.

 instead of

Can anyone point out where I could get the list of language codes?

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Salman!

RE: [svg-developers] Re: Multiple Image Elements

2005-08-10 Thread Kerry Coffin
Thanks Andreas,

Yes the log file shows that only 2 images are requested at a time by the
plugin. If one request finishes then another request is issued.

Here is my log file from the servlet: Time In is the current time in
milliseconds on the web server. For instance you can see that the first
2 requests come in within 50 milliseconds of each other and take about
800 ms to complete. Then the third request takes 609 ms and the 4th
request takes 906 ms. the 3rd one finishes and the 5th request is
issued. Etc.

Please ignore the accessed web service.. I'm accessing a service for
some raster data. (one tile). The elapsed time is the time it takes
to get data from the web service.
I'm not worried about the speed of the web service, that's why god
invented caching. What I'm worried about is the fact that only 2
requests are satisfied at a time. If the client and web server are
located miles apart, then this could potentially take a while. (loading
the image by tiles).

does that mean that you receive only two of the 16 newly created
images and the remaing 14 are not loaded and displayed? Or does it
mean that ASV requests two images at a time, waits until you get
them and makes requests for the next two images?

Do you have a simple testcase illustrating your problem so that we
could have a look at your source?

I did quite a lot with image loading but did not observe any
problems.

http://www.carto.net/williams/yosemite/index.svg is one example
where I dynamically load images (see photogallery). In that case I
load 4 at a time, but I also did other applications where I loaded 9
or more at the time.

do you say that the plugin requests an image twice? Do you have
double entries in your server's logfile?

unfortunately I don't know any way to control caching behaviour of
ASV or a webbrowser.

[svg-developers] how/where to represent aspect ratio

2005-08-10 Thread reindeer21005

I have a 150 x 150 array of values representing a 23600m x 12700m
area that I want to display in a viewport. Each single
sub-rectangle would be 23600m/150 by 12700m/150 and is color coded.
The problem is how/where to designate that my areas are rectangular.

Can this be done on the root element or do I specify the actual size
for each rect ? I have tried different things with attributes
but I am getting squares. I guess I don't know how to tell it the
apect ratio.

I tried different combinations using SVG Essentails book but can't get it.

Thanks for positive comments.

[svg-developers] Re: Real time map animation in svg

2005-08-10 Thread lakeuk
Take alook at this
http://www.nickfessel.com/gmaps/burlingtonbikeRide.html

while not SVG it demostrates what can be done with stats collected of a
gps unit and plotted on Google Maps, I take it this is the sort of
thing you want to do in SVG.

[svg-developers] Re: Multiple Image Elements

does that mean that you receive only two of the 16 newly created
images and the remaing 14 are not loaded and displayed? Or does it
mean that ASV requests two images at a time, waits until you get
them and makes requests for the next two images?

Do you have a simple testcase illustrating your problem so that we
could have a look at your source?

I did quite a lot with image loading but did not observe any
problems.

http://www.carto.net/williams/yosemite/index.svg is one example
where I dynamically load images (see photogallery). In that case I
load 4 at a time, but I also did other applications where I loaded 9
or more at the time.

do you say that the plugin requests an image twice? Do you have
double entries in your server's logfile?
