I can't imagine it being the book. I've seen them up on eBay, Half,
Alibris... The 3rd edition is not uncommon at all. It looks like there was
one newbie and one more experienced eBayer who should have known better.

It sounds like you have the Commodore 64 folder packages. Depending whether
they are the large or small version, and if they are crushed, they would
probably fetch around $10 - $20 (less for the small folders, which are far
more common).

I've seen this also with Wizardry titles that
appeared to be in original shrink except the bottom box piece was

Re: [SWCollect] Ebay trader experiences

2003-08-31 Thread ceforman

SW&M have been around for a long time.
They are two people, Tony and Paula.  They run a small shop out in CA and
apparently have a warehouse of older software.  They also get some of it
from at least one supplier, though I've never gotten them to divulge any
details.

For awhile the biggest problem with them was the
question of whether their shrinked items were original or rewraps.  One of
their suppliers put reshrinks on used games, and SW&M at the time didn't
fully understand the collector market.  And they were in a bit of a
position, they couldn't just ask their supplier to stop reshrinking because
known originals were more valuable, or they'd get their prices raised.
They weren't always terribly good at identifying reshrinks and I think
disappointed a lot of collectors, though, to be fair, they did take the
reshrinks back and offer refunds.  They still use a system of "rating" the
wrap: D=definitely new, P=probably new, something like that, which I've never
understood: If you're not certain, open it and take the loss if there is
one.

I did a column article on them (just explaining
all this so collectors would know, nothing like my counterfeiter pieces)
which got them a bit upset, but I also gave them advice on how to spot
reshrinks, and I still buy from them today occasionally.  I've always had
good service, never rude responses from them.  I was kind of surprised to
hear they'd been rude to you.

double the listed starting price so I asked if we could come an agreement with

I got a very short and rude reply.

This is a very good, and interesting, point. A lot of sellers would see
this as you having made an offer, now you're trying to back down.
Personally if it were me, I'd've let the $7 go and sold it to you for $25:
eBay can be notoriously inconsistent, and something that sold for $32
yesterday might only net you the starting bid of $15 today, it all depends
on the competition. If you wait until they relist it, you may even get it
for less, and they'd be the ones getting stuck.

No, it wasn't. The original parchment in ZZ looked like an actual scrap of
paper, with uneven edges, etc, plus the printing was in color. The LTOI
version was like a Slash reproduction on white paper.

I can't say for sure which packages have the parchment and which don't. It
seems to be about half and half.

Dear eBay Member,

You have been selected to participate in a very important eBay online study,
which is being conducted by NetRaker Corporation on eBay's behalf.

The study involves completing 8 tasks on the eBay web site, including
buying and selling tasks, and answering questions about your experiences as
you go along. The estimated time to complete the study is between 45 and 120
minutes. In appreciation for your time and input, $50 and 2 eBay pens will
be sent to you within ten business days of completing the study.

During the study, you will be asked to purchase 2 items on eBay, and to
list an eBay pen for auction, even if you have never sold anything on eBay
before. Again, the pens will be sent to you within ten business days of
completing the study. One is to ship to the winning eBay bidder if the pen
successfully sold, and the other is for you to keep.

Since buying, paying, and selling will take place on the live eBay Web site
during the study, you should be prepared to use your eBay userid and
password to log into the site when prompted. If you have never sold items on
eBay, you will also be required to enter your credit card and bank account
information in order to list the eBay pen for sale. It will be useful to
have a check handy while completing the study, since the bank check routing
number will be required when listing an item for the first time.

Individual responses will be used for research purposes only and will remain
strictly confidential. The information you provide will be used in
accordance with the eBay Privacy Policy, which can be found at the following
URL: http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-priv.html.

Hello,

Thank you for writing regarding the recent email you received with the

your efforts." Please be assured that this survey is endorsed by eBay
and is completely legitimate. NetRaker Corporation will be conducting

NetRaker and not eBay URLs.

The study involves completing 8 tasks on the eBay web site, and

your time and input, you will receive $50 and an eBay pen following
completion of the study.

one to sell on eBay). Since buying and selling will take place on the

already registered (you would be prompted to register during the study
at the appropriate time), and to be prepared to enter your eBay User Id

I doubt it'll do much good, but I still recommend that everyone who sells on eBay sign

Ebay is becoming Greedy. After anouncing massive profits for it's last quarter it has anounced fee increases. We belive that these fee increases are unreasonable and call upon Ebay not to go ahead with the proposed increase until it has properly consulted with it's users!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
