Sunrise will now send a technician with proper testing devices to debug the connection. I am pretty sure that we are able to resolve the issue shortly. André, We are investigating what went wrong. As far as I know this is a special case and we are reselling a simple darkfiber of Sunrise (very uncommon), and it seems that a ticket has been opened with Sunrise a while ago. As it's a Layer-1 service we are unable to check the functionality. Someone from our team will get back to you offlist once we have further information. Sorry for the issue. Hello André > I'm trying to debug a fiber connection between two datacenters in > Zurich. > > We got a 1Gbps "dedicated Layer2 Connection incl. Managed Switch" from > Init7. As a first step you probably want to fact check if you have a "darkfibre", which might be measured with a power meter and/or OTDR, or if you have a layer-2 service as you worte above. A layer-2 service means there is some active gear (usually from your service provider) in between you and the physical fibre between the datacenters which they manage and therefore you can not optically measure the line as a whole. > If I put everything together, I still see a "notconnect" on the > switchport. As a simple test: see if you see have no light (down/down) at both ends of your connection. My guess: it's only at one end and you most probably deal with a defective optic (GBIC/SFP) at some point... Bottom line: most probably you will have to deal with your service provider. Good luck. -- Best regards, Roman Hochuli Operations Manager nexellent ag Saegereistrasse 33 CH-8152 Glattbrugg Phone: +41 44 872 20 00 Fax: +41 44 872 20 01 URL: www.nexellent.ch X-NCC-RegID: ch.nexellent Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality. -- Jules de Gaultier ___ swinog mailing list swinog@lists.swinog.ch http://lists.swinog.ch/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/swinog
[swinog] Anyone round Zurich with an OTDR and a little bit of time?
Hi List I'm trying to debug a fiber connection between two datacenters in Zurich. Unfortunately the other companies involved are not very responsive. And please bear with me, I am not a network engineer, I am just the poor guy who got this thingie on his desk... Here is what I am trying to achieve: In each datacenter we got an Arista DCS-7050T-52 with each an SFP 1000BASE-LX which supports up to 10km links on single-mode and 550m on multi-mode fiber. We got a 1Gbps "dedicated Layer2 Connection incl. Managed Switch" from Init7. As far as I know, they are using Sunrise as partner to provide the connection. We are connecting to a SMF with 1310nm. If I put everything together, I still see a "notconnect" on the switchport. Unfortunately the "Platin" support seems to be more like "Bronze", we do not get a proper response right now. Currently I can't tell if there is something wrong within our setup or within the setup of our provider. I would like to get a third party with a proper testing device (and more experience than me) to meet me in the datacenter(s) and help me to find evidence what the heck is going on.
